Samantha Murray starts her season

Samantha – 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist in the Modern Pentathlon – is back in action in her first competition since August 2012. Heavily involved in studying for her Degree Finals in April, Sam is having to balance her time between the books and training.

Sam will be competing in 3 of the 5 World Cup Series for 2013 (it’s the best three scores out of the 5 rounds that count). She missed the first round in Palm Springs and competed in the second round of the 2013 World Cup Series held in Rio – 20th March – finishing, despite not having enough training in, in 5th place and first British athlete from the GB Team. Going into the Combined element of the competition, Sam was in 1st place, but an admitted shortage of training in that area didn’t help her. She next competes in Budapest in the 4th Round of the World Cup and then Russia for the Final.

Sophie Hitchon and recent Competitions

A really good start to the season for the British National Record holder and 2012 Olympic Finalist. Sophie’s first competition this year was at Loughborough – March 2nd – where she took part in the British Athletics Hammer Circle Winter Throws Trials, winning with a fine throw of 70:34m and putting her at the top of the European U23 Women’s rankings.

Next up for Sophie was the European Cup Winter Throws in Castellon, Spain where she led a teamĀ  along with Alex Smith of seven Throwers which consisted of 4 Hammer Throwers, 2 Shot Putters and 1 Javelin Thrower. In the Group A Final, which turned out to be rather flat in terms of everyone’s performances, only three Women threw just over 70 metres and Sophie finished in 10th place with a throw of 66.69m.
