Samantha has continued with her great start to the season at the British Modern Pentathlon Championships in Solihull held on Saturday April 6th, winning the Womens Senior event and the overall British Championship. This was a great performance following on from her 5th place (1st British Woman) in the second round of the World Cup Series in Rio recently and she is currently ranked 3rd in the World.
Sam’s victory at the British Championships means she has secured her place in the British Team which competes in the European Championships in Poland in July.

First off were 32 animated and excited Under 8 runners and it was a joy to see them enjoying themselves for the few minutes that the Race took. First girl home and winner of the Girls Race was our own Alayna Irivine – 8th overall (and who never stopped running for the rest of the day!!) followed by Kate Cookson in 11th place and an excellent 4th place in the Girls Race.
The next Race for Under 10’s had 57 – 30 Girls and 27 Boys – runners in it with just 8 seconds separating the first four. Eleesha Charnley our effervescent 9yr old had a great run to come home 16th overall and 4th in the Girls Race. Amy Davies making her debut on this type of terrain had a really good run to finish 32nd overall and 11th in the Girls Race.
In the Under 12’s Race – 67 runners with 28 girls and 39 Boys – Hannah Cookson courageously set off like a rocket and was in 3rd place overall at the top of the first climb. However that effort took its toll and Hannah slipped back to 29th overall and 8th in the Girls Race and a fine 3rd in the Lancashire Championships winning a Bronze Medal.
22 Girls and 20 Boys line up for the Under 14’s Race, which provided Blackburn with its second victory of the day so far and first Lancashire Champion. Grace Handley, who is in sparkling form finished 8th over all and won the Girls Race and the Lancashire title. Rhiannon Wickham 9th overall and Phoebe Howe 13th overall finished 1st and 2nd in the Championships providing the Club with its 3rd Championship winner of the day so congratulations to them.
