It’s Going A Long Way Jack!

Jack Vickery was selected to compete at the BUCS in May at Bedford and put in a really fine performance adding a full two and half metres to his PB with the Senior 7.26kg Hammer. This massive new PB takes him up to 7th in the National Rankings for an U20 throwing the senior weight which is just reward for all the hard work he has put in.

In such a rich vein of form, it was no surprise to see Jack back out last week at the BRAT Club Open in Birmingham. Throwing his own weight as an U20, Jack went and delivered another PB adding another half metre to his previous best of 48:85m with a fine throw of 49.39m.

Climbing The Fells

The Harriers were involved in a number of Fell Races recently. John Sutton had a really good run at the Belmont Winter Hill Race finishing 9th out of 166 entrants on the day and in a time of 37:53. Allan Hartley had a crack at this Race placing 74th (46.30). Allan also competed in the Wray Scarecrow Race five days previously finishing 40th out of 244 runners and in a time of 53:51.

Not to be outdone, John Orrell flew the flag for the Club  at Pendle Coughs 14 mile Race with 4100 ft of ascent on May 4th – 40th in 2hr:58.37 and a PB by a massive 16 minutes – and then a week later ran the Fairfield Horseshoe which was 10 miles with 3000 ft of ascent.

Some of our Juniors braved the bad weather at Cowpe on Saturday with some good performances. In the U16 – U18 Race Liz Greenwood had another excellent run winning the U16G age category in 39.12; Kelsey Rutherford finished 5th overall in the U16G age category in 46.03. The U14 Race was contested by Grace Handley 4th in the U14G age category with a time of 24:41 and Megan Clarkson (23rd) in 29:28. No holding Alayna Irvine back who once again tackled the U8 Race coming home 6th in the U8G Race (7:57).
