Yet Another Win for Ben Fish

Ben is having a great year. He has contested 12 Races since the beginning of the year from 1500m and 5000m on the Track to 20 miles on the Road; And just to top it off, at the beginning of the year he won the Lancashire Cross Country Championships. His record so far is a little like that of Alex Ferguson winning 9 of them, placing 2nd twice and 3rd once. Ouch – Ben’s a Liverpool fan!!!

His latest Race was the Sheffield Half-Marathon held last weekend – 12th May – and the Race featured 5400 runners. Ben won it in a time of 66:51 exactly a minute and a half in front of 2nd place runner, Alastair Watson of Notts AC

Driving Through The Rain!!

On a rained soaked day at Witton Park, Under 11 Boys and Girls turned out to compete against one another in the annual three Team Competition between Blackburn Harriers; Hyndburn AC and the reigning holders of the Competition Trophy, Kirkham Grammar School.

Events included Hurdles; 75m; 150m; 500m; Long Jump; Triple Jump; Shot; Javelin; Shuttle Relays and 4 x 100 Relays – and the children gave it everything, shouting and cheering on their team mates and ignoring what were dreadful conditions.

There some really good contests, but overall, Kirkham Grammar School came out on top again this year with a combined total of 197 points, with Hyndburn in 2nd place on 164 points and just narrowly behind in 3rd place were Blackburn with 164 points.

Father & Daughter Success

Christopher Davies, a recent new member to the Club and only recently having taken up athletics had a cracking weekend winning the Sherriff 10k at Scorton on Sunday in 38.05 – 158 runners crossing the line at the end.

Not far behind was Pauline Powell in 4th place overall (38.39) and first Woman Athlete and first V35. Really good to see Pauline back racing. John Cookson 36th (45.18) was followed in closely by Paul Wilkinson in 43rd (46.31). Paul is fast becoming an all rounder, winning Javelin contests at the Mid Lancs T&F League, competing in Throws events in the Northern League, running on the Road and doing Triathlons in his spare time!!

Not to be outdone, Chris’s daughter Amy kicked off before her dad and won the Junior Fun Run. It’s got to be in the genes. No accident that Chris is the nephew of the Club’s Secretary and Amy is the great-niece of the Club Secretary. Got to brag sometime!!!
