Northern Road Relays at Stanley Park September 19th
A real great day for Road Relay running greeted the athletes as they arrived at Stanley Park for this years Northern Road Relay Championships which saw the Harriers field nine Teams consisting of 35 athletes.
Team Manager George Woodburn was delighted with the Club’s efforts and perforamnces on the day and said that he had “been to many road relays over the years and even though I don’t now run in them, the next best thing is to help to put the teams together and see our teams compete. I was really pleased with the big turn out from all the age groups. The relays always seem to bring out a great team spirit and Saturday was no exception, with all runners and family supporters enjoying the weather and running. I won’t mention individuals, as there were some fantastic performances in all age groups, and it was great to see some of the younger runners who have never experienced the high standard of competition they were up against, step up with such enthusiasm. So thanks to everybody for supporting the Club at the event, it makes organizing it worthwhile”.
The three U13 girls Amy Davies, Eleesha Charnley and Jessica Watson who were first Lancashire Club the week previously at the North West Road Relays put in another good performance coming in 12th of the 32 Teams. Amy on Leg One ran the 6th fastest time of the day and her time was better than all three girls in the winning Salford Team.

The U13 Boys who also won the Lancashire Title at the North West Relays the week before had Matt Ramsden, Daniel Brown and Leon Thomas putting in a great performance taking 11th place out of the 30 Teams competing. Again. and quite remarkedly, Matt ran the 5th fastest time of the day for the U13 Boys and ran faster than everyone who ran in the winning Keighley team.

Maddie Elliott, Chloe Bleeks and Hannah Cookson made up the Team for the U15 Girls just missing out on a top ten position when they placed 11th out of the 30 Teams contesting the age group. Maddie just missed getting in to the top ten fastest legs by 2 seconds.
Chloe was really pleased to be involved in the Team and said afterwards “Well done to the Blackburn Harriers who competed in the road relays and thanks to Hannah and Maddie who where a great team and thanks for cheering us all on”

The U17 Men’s Team was the same as the one that ran the North West Relays the week before which won a Team Silver Medal – Liam Atkinson on Leg 1, Tom McKeee on Leg 2 and Zak Hargreaves on the final Leg. This week they finished 17th of the 27 Teams featured which was a solid performance given the step up in quality associated with the Northerns.

Senior Women’s Results
A pretty good day for the Senior Men too, fielding three Teams with the ‘A’ Team of Karl Billington, Joe Monk, Paul Guinan, Ben Fish, Brian Fogarty and Andy Buttery running well in every Leg to place 14th overall out of 102 Teams. Karl had a good run on Leg 1 to bring us home in 17th spot and after drifting a few places Ben brought the team back to 15th followed by Brian holding the position and Andy picking up a place on the final leg. Good running from all the lads.
Senior Men’s Results
Similarly with the ‘B’ Team of (54th) of Chris Davies, Matt Nuttall, Dave Almond, Shaun Livesey, Morgan Philips and John Chaplin who gained nine places over the six Legs………
………… and the ‘C’ Team who also gained nine places over the six Legs (92nd) comprising John Cookson, Evan Cook, Jason Harbour, Paul Wilkinson, Richard Taylor and Mark Almond. Jason posted the fastest time for the ‘C’ Team which was good to see after he has had to get over a new hip operation and get himself back into training. Great to see.
