Individual and Team Titles for the Harriers in Red Rose League – Joe wins Best 5K – Katie and Zac going well at University Cross Country
Red Rose Final Fixture at Rossendale
The infamous Marl Pits Course certainly lived up to its name yesterday with the weather providing more water, mud and wind than can be remembered for quite a while. However none of it deterred the runners turning up in droves to fight for individual and team prizes at the final fixture of the season which turned out to be a good one for the Harriers.

The Men’s Senior Team finished runners up in the overall Team Competition to Bolton. Shaun Livesey was the highest placed in the overall Series at 10th (he also took the Silver Medal in the V40 category) followed by Chris Davies in 14th, Chris Balderson 40th (and 4th V50), Allan Hartley 52nd, Craig Greenhough 80th, John Cookson 86th, Richard Taylor 120th and Paul Wilkinson 123rd.
In the Senior Women’s Series – Jan Buckingham was the leading Harrier in 73rd, followed by Lorna Sharp in 75th and Lindsay Davies 94th.
There were Individual Series wins for Amy Davies in the U13’s and Maddie Elliott in the U15’s whilst the U11 Boys did fantastic in their first season winning the Team Series Title with Edward Lee coming 4th overall, Kyle Pomfret 5th, Rory Teare 6th, Saul Sharp 14th and Oliver Lee 37th. Matt Ramsden took the Silver in the U13 Boys for the Series along with Jamie Teare 4th, Leon Thomas 13th and Daniel Brown 27th which secured them a Series Team Silver.
The U11 Girls finished 5th of twelve teams over the Series with Leah Hoole finishing 6th overall, Hollie Cubbon 8th, Kate Cookson 37th, Amelia Tyson 41st, Isabelle Hartley 61st. The U15 Girls just missed out on the Bronze Medal for the Team in the series by a mere 4 points with Maddie Elliott finishing 1st, Hannah Cookson 10th, and Chloe Bleeks 19th. Eleesha Charnley also had a good Series placing 12th overall.

At Rossendale, the U11 Boys won the Team prize on the day with three Edward Lee (6th), Rory Teare (8th) and Kyle Pomfret (9th) in the first 10 and were supported by Saul Sharp in 12th Oliver Gill In 40th and are now looking forward to the Lancashire Championships in January.
In the U11 Girls Hollie Cubbon had her best run of the season so far finishing 4th in 7.20 and just one second off a 3rd place. Next in was Amelia Tyson in her first season (38th) in a time of 8.39 and followed by Isabelle Hartley in 57th (9.35).
Jamie Teare led the boys in the U13’s Race placing 5th in 9.35 and another Harrier who was just one second off a 3rd placed finish – backed up by Daniel Brown in 26th (10.35) and Luke Ingleson 28th in a time of 10.44.
With the other U13 Girls at Blackburn Schools Championships Eleesha Charnley was the sole runner for the Club on the day with a really good run in 11th place (11.10) out of a field of fifty seven runners.
Shaun Livesey was the leading Harrier in the Senior Men’s Race in 16th (32.11) With Chris Balderson 43rd in 35.05, Allan Hartley (59th) in a time of 36.48, Craig Greenhough (113th) in 41.30, Danny Teare and Team Manager for the day 126th in 42.34 and Paul Wilkinson 144th in 44.42. Lorna Sharp completed the Series in the Senior Women’s Race in 76th spot with a time of 29.49 and commented that she was “Feeling really proud of myself, felt rubbish all week but still did XC at Marl Pits, very tough conditions but absolutely loved it including the bogs, climbs, oh yeah and my slip from top to bottom of the hills!!! Super proud of Saul and all BBH kids too who did awesome”.
Last weekend saw the running of the local Best 5k featuring ninety six runners and one Blackburn Harrier – Joe Monk who won the Race by over a minute in 17.34 and said afterwards that he was “Pleased with the run today, they changed the course slightly, making it a bit longer, due to the bad conditions but pleased to win nonetheless”.

Katie Buckingham was out in the Cross Country fixture at Holme Pierrepont on Sunday 29th November, competing for Nottingham University and it was a good day for Katie and her University Team. In the individual results Katie took 3rd place in 18.04 and her Nottingham University Team won the fixture taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.

Another of the Harriers at University – Zac Howe at Cambridge – was also out last weekend in the Cambridge vs Oxford cross country match at Shotover, Oxford and described by Zac as “a nice hilly course”. There were 3 matches on the day and Zac placed 2nd overall in a time of 29.07 with the winner running 29.00 dead and 2nd place 29.02, so a very competitive race
