Carly & Carol set new PB’s at Haweswater – Zac Wins for Cambridge – John climbs the National Rankings

The Haweswater Half-Marathon is described on the Race Website as “The Haweswater Half follows an out and back course from Bampton Village (9 miles S of Penrith, 4 miles W of Shap) and passes along the shores of Haweswater in a remote and dramatic mountain valley. The hilly course offers an exhilarating run in unique surroundings” as can be seen in this picture.

No wonder over 400 runners entered. How could anyone resist this.

Carly Edwards has recently joined the Club after a period of getting involved with our Track sessions and there is little doubt that she has made great progress. In her latest Race she chopped off over three minutes on a hilly course – placing 109th – and there is little doubt that on a flat course she will knock further chunks off too. She was Really happy with my performance yesterday. I felt really strong throughout. I had a quick look at my watch at 10 miles and realised that if I pushed hard I could get under 137. I managed 136.17 which is a massive pb for me”.

Equally impressive was the run by another new member – Carol Reilly – who in finishing 117th reduced her PB by two minutes and commented after the Race that It’s one of my favourite races and with recent pb’s I was determined to push as hard as I could. It paid off and I finished in 1.37.21 which was 2mins faster than my previous pb“.
