Tom Wins Catforth 10k – Another Top 10 for John at Two Lads Fell Race – Jess Wins Watford 1500m – Harriers Youngsters at Preston and Burnley Open Meetings
Catforth 10k – Sunday June 9th
Just over a 100 runners took part in this race which saw Blackburn Harriers Tom Blaney take a comfortable win by over two minutes, crossing the finish line in 35.14 for a pretty solid run going into the wind that characterised athletics events last weekend.
Two Lads Fell Race – Thursday June 13th
Horwich athlete – Phil Marsden – headed this one hundred and thrity seven strong field on Thgursday evening, winning in a time of 32.01, some 2 minutes in front of 2nd place.
John Horrocks continued his good run of form with another top ten finish, clocking 35.13 in 6th place.
BMC Gold Standard Races – Watford Wednesday June 12th
Jess Judd and Rob Warner were in action at the Watford BMC Meeting during the week, both of them contesting the 1500m. Jess front ran the race, after turning up to find there wasn’t a pacemaker, clocking 4.12.29 for a very comfortable win, in her first outing over the distance this season. It was also Rob’s first race over the distance this year as he placed 13th with a time of 3.53.98.
Preston Harriers U12’s Medal meeting – Sunday June 9th
A good day out for the youngsters at the Preston Open Medal Meeting covering 75m – 400m – 600m – Long Jump and Cricket Ball competition for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 school children.
Charlotte Smith started her day with a win in the 75m with a time of 12.8 and made it a double in the 400m clocking 1.28.1 in first place completing a hat-trick of wins in the Long Jump with 2.81m. Ben Hopwood won his 75m race in 13.0 as Alex McKinlay finished 2nd in the same race with a time of 13.3. Alex then went and won the 400m in 1.28.6 with Ben in 2nd spot (1.34.0) and Harry Craven in 3rd position with a time of 1.40.7. In the Long Jump Alex came 2nd with a jump of 2.43m as Harry took 3rd (1.89m) whilst Orla Downes ran 14.1 in 4th position in the 75m and then threw 12.05m in the Cricket Ball to take 1st place as Harry Craven who was the only Yr 3 Boy threw 14.14m. Orla went onto the Long Jump placing 3rd out of 4 with a distance of 1.82m.
Henry Gibson and Theo Robinson went in the first Heat of the Yr 4 75m which produced a win for Henry in 11.4 and 3rd spot for Theo with 12.0. Heat 2 had Jack Duxbury in 3rd (12.8), in 4th Frank John son (14.2) and Leon Spence in 5th with a time of 14.8. Theo went on to run in the 400m where he came home in 2nd place with 72.7 followed in 3rd spot by Henry Gibson (80.7), Matthew Sharples 4th (81.3), Frank Johnson 6th (91.1) and Leon Spence in 7th with 96.5. Demi Casey ran in the Yr 4 Girls 400m finishing 8th in 1.49.6, clocked 13.6 in Heat 2 of the 75m (3rd) and then placed 8th again in the Long Jump with 1.82m. Frank Johnson’s third event of the day – Cricket Ball – saw him throw 16.61m in 5th place with Leon Spence in 6th (9.72m). The Yr 4 Boys Long Jump had Henry Gibson in 5th (2.77m) and Jack Duxbury in 6th (2.70m).
Hannah Davies took her first win of the day in Yr 75m with a time of 11.7 with Leah Walker in 5th spot (13.8) and then went on to win the 600m clocking 2.01.6, making it three wins on the day in the Long Jump with a new PB leap of 3.62m. Leah jumped 1.82m in the same Long Jump event for 6th position before going on to throw 2.79m in the Shot (1st). Zachary Hearle is enjoying competition – winning Heat 1 of the 75m in 12.0 before going on to take 2nd spot in the 600m with a time of 2.06.02 and jumping 2.94m (5th) in the Long Jump. Jack Carrington finished 4th out of 5 in Heat 2 of the 75m (12.4) and then ran a time of 2.13.9 in 4th place in the 600m.
Imogen Robinson came home first of five runners in the Yr 6 600m – clocking a huge new PB time of 1.55.9 – in March 2018, the last time she ran a 600m race, her time was 2.23.7 – her time today representing nearly a half a minute improvement. Imogen clocked 11.8 in 3rd spot in the 75m and then set another new PB in the Long Jump with a leap of 3.70m in 5th place. Matthew Smith was a very confortable winner of the 600m race running a time of 1.46.6 and before that, set a new PB in the 75m of 11.1 in 4th spot finishing off with a 2nd placed leap of 4.21m in the Long Jump. Sam Craven ran the same 600m clocking 2.41.2 in 9th before going on to throw 3.80m in the Shot Putt (5th) jumping a distance of 2.44m in the Long Jump (11th).
Burnley U11’s Meeting – Sunday June 9th
U11 Boy Matthew Haxton had a pretty good day at Burnley winning the 75m in a time of 11.3 at the head of 12 other athletes and then went on to run 1.54.8 for 2nd place out of 12 in the U11 Boys 600m which also featured U11 Felix Thompson, clocking 2.16.2 in 9th place. U11 Girl Harmony Hacking took on the same events finishing 6th out of 9 in the 600m with a time of 2.09.4 and clocking 12.4 in the 75m placing equal 7th out of 13 runners. U10 Boy Liam Bennison made it three Harriers running in these two events which saw Liam come home 2nd out of 5 in the U10 Boys 600m (2.10.4) and then running 13.3 in equal 6th place out of 10.

Some good performances by these youngsters too in the Field Events which saw Matthew Haxton add to his first and second places on the track, another 1st place in the U11 Boys Long Jump leaping out to 3.77m to take top spot in the eleven strong competition. In the U10 Boys Long Jump – Liam Bennison jumped a distance of 2.30 for 9th spot out of 11 and over in the High Jump – Felix Thompson cleared 1.05m in the U11 Boys event in 2nd place. The Cricket Ball competition which is always popular saw Felix throw 26.88m in 3rd place whilst Harmony Hacking finished 2nd in the U11 Girls with 15.10m.
