Six New PB’s for Harriers at Podium 5k – Jess Wins BMC 5000 with new PB & Season’s 5000 best for Rob – Rachael’s back

Podium 5k – Friday June 14th

Thirty three athletes lined up in the latest of the fast 5k Races put on at Barrowfordlast night, won in a new race record of 13.54 by Derby’s Ben Connor with four sub 15 minute athletes behind him.


First of those for Blackburn Harriers was Ben Fish in 5th spot clocking 14.54 in his first actual 5k road race since July 2016 and a new personal best on the course. Next Came Ben Costello in 15th position with a very solid time of 15.43 and just 12 seconds shy of his personal best. Jacob Watson was just behind, ducking 16 minutes for the first time, following another fine run of 15.46 in 18th spot and a massive new PB by half a minute. Calum Holmes joined the new PB’s on the night as he chopped 20 seconds off his previous best to clock 16.35 in 33rd.

This Race featured seventy six runners and was won by Salford’s Paul Bannister in a pretty rapid time of 15.57 – the first six in this race all running times within the 16.30 limit of the main race. Chris Davies posted the third new PB of the night for the harriers chopping a huge 40 seconds off his previous personal best (16.57) to take 3rd spot in a time of 16.17. John Horrocks who has been running really well on the Fells this year was next home for the Club in 9th place in a new PB – the fourth on the night so far – of 16.41, an improvement of nineteen seconds. In 24th position came Paul Brindle with the fifth new PB on the night by fourteen seconds, with a time of 17.08. Victoria Mousley was the Harriers fourth athlete in this Race clocking a time of 19.30 in 72nd position.

This Race was massive with one hundred and eighty nine runners participating and eventually won by Queensbury Running Club’s Paul Greenwood in 17.43.


John Foster was the first across the line for the Harriers in 18th spot running a time of 19.34, followed by V50 Paul Smith in 38th who is just starting out on his running career, with a good time of 20.24. Making it six new PB’s overall on the night, Lindsay Davies broke her personal best by just over two minutes for a huge improvement, finishing with 21.42 in 67th and she was followed in Helen Dawson-Smith in 141st place in a time of 24.50 – her first competitive run since July 2018.

Three Races for the youngsters – U7/U9 (25 runners) – U11/U13 (84 runners)- U15/U17 (28 runners).

The U11/U13 Race – approx. 2k – was won by Trawden’s Ben Stratton in a time of 7.00. Oliver Gill was the first across the finishing line for the Harriers in 4th place in a time of 7.32 with Matthew Smith in 9th (7.56), U11 heo Robinson (12th) clocking 8.01, Imogen Robinson 19th running a time of 8.10, Hannah Davies running 8.19 in 22nd spot, Harmony Hacking (U11) in 35th position with a time of 8.39 and U11 Charlotte Smith in 67th with 10.00.

Codie Dewhurst and Daniel Smith ran in the U15/U17 – approx 3k – Race won by Clayton’s Michael Stevens in 10.39. Codie came home in 6th spot clocking 11.21 with Daniel in 9th place in a time of 11.30.

Loughborough Grand Prix – Saturday June 15th

After winning the BMC 1500m race at Sportsicty last weekend, Jess Judd was out again at Loughborough in the 5000m and ran another cracking race to set a new personal best of 15.31.64, some 16 seconds in front of 2nd place and a time which takes her into 5th place in the National Rankings.


Rob Warner ran the 5000m last weekend at Sportcity and went over the same distance again last night in a race featuring 21 athltes. Rob chopped six seconds off his time last Saturday to come home in 10th place clocking a seasons best time of 14.27.96.


Pilling 10k – Saturday June 15th

It’s been quite a while since Rachael Gavin ran a race – back in April 2018 where she set her 5 mile personal best in the Hale Village 5. A bad injury has meant that she has had to take her time in returning and she was rewarded for her patience and hard work in getting back, by completing the Pilling 10k yesterday.

Rachael came home in 16th place with a time of 43.59 to prove she is back and we couldn’t be more delighted for her. In the same race V40 Paul Jeffries ran a time of 41.38 in 11th place.
