Shaun Livesey (V40) went over to Berlin and had the honour of competing in the Marathon there when the winner broke the world record (2hr 02min 57sec) at at an average mile pace of 4.41which was a quite astonishing run.

Shaun whose Marathon PB was 2.47.17 going into the Race set a new personal best with a time of 2.44.40 and ran it with a great negative split of 83.11 f0r the first half and 81.29 for the second. Great running  and Shaun shared his thought’s and experiences of Berlin with the Club telling us ” Well to be fair I didn’t think I was in top shape but obviously gonna try my best. Race day and I walk the mile or so to the start, didn’t need to secure any bag or valuables so that was one less thing to worry about. Managed to get in start pen b only 20m from all the elite. Gun goes and I tell myself nice and steady ( Sunday run) pace was bang on 6:18 settled in and sat behind some Spanish lads who were setting a good tempo. 10m in around 62 mins felling good. Half way point came and hit it at 1:23:11 I was a little worried but stayed at the same pace. 20m in about 2:05 and still feeling well, so increased my pace. Ran mile 22 in 5:55 and mile 23 at 5:43 so told myself to back off. The next two miles were steady. I knew I was on for a sub 2:45 so emptied my tanks on the run in under the brandeburg gate. The race clock read 2:44:50. So pleased to have finally got that time. If I never run a marathon that fast again, im pleased to have ran it on the course and in a world record race!”

In the 10k Race, Chris Davies finished 5th in what worked out to be a tougher Race than most people thought and Chris commented The course was really tough, their were more hills in it than I thought there would be making it very difficult to achieve a PB, not a PB course at all really. Good course none the less, pleased with my run but just need the results to come through to confirm my time.” Allan Hartley, John Cookson and Carol Cookson all ran in the Race too, but as yet we don’t have results.
