Chris & Joanne 2nd at Caldervale 10 Mile – John races Rydal Round & Kentmere Horseshoe
Caldervale 10 – Sunday July 28th
Just over one hundred and fifty runneras lined up in this one hilly course won by Joseph Beech in a time of 55.44. Coming home in 2nd spot was Chris Davies clocking 58.38 which also gave him the V40 1st prize and he told the Harriers after the Race that he “decided to do the Caldervale 10 Miler at the last minute and use it as a training run. It proved to be a good decision. The course is tough especially in the middle section. The course is very up and down and you are working all the time going into mile 3 to 8. I had a good run though, 58:38 so to break the hour mark on that course was very pleasing. The last three miles I am pleased with, it was a good strong finish after putting in some hard work, so happy overall. 2nd overall and 1st Vet 40 is a good day. Well done to Joanne Nelson as well who also finished 2nd overall for the Female section and finishing 1st in her Vet catergory”.
Joanne Nelson who has won her last three road races had to settle for 2nd place today as she came home in 30th position overall with a time of 69.25 telling us afterwards that she “Really enjoyed the race today. It’s a challenging course with plenty of ups and downs. Was happy to come 2nd lady after Dionne Allen. The only way I would have won would have been to drive around in my car! Plenty of support on the run in to the village, and cakes available at the village hall”.

John Horrocks was tacking the first of two tough Fell Races in four days and in this his first, he clocked a time of 1hr 46.00 in 17th place overall.
Four days later John was out again on the Fells, this time tackling the Kentmere Horseshoe Fell Race – Sunday July 28th with12.3 miles of running and 3300ft of climbing & won by Garry Greenhow of Ambleside AC in a time of 1hr 35.24 some two minutes in front of 2nd placed Phil Marsden (Horwich) and Joshua Jardine in 3rd.
John ran 1hr 50.33 in 29th spot out of a field of 276 runners and commented to the Club afterwards that it “turned out to be a good day on Kentmere Horseshoe despite the weather we set off in back at home. Managed my fastest time on the route even with struggling up the first two climbs with rydal round still in my legs but came too and had a really good second half of the race. Top day out as always!“
