It was Sophie’s third victory of the season and it brought her the National Title and the Gold Medal to add to her her U17 (2007) –  U20 (2008)  and U23 (2013) National Hammer titles.

As British record holder and European U23 champion Sophie Hitchon confirmed her place on the GB team for the European Championships, by winning with a throw of 65.56m. Sophie had already achieved the standard back in May and feels she’s still got a lot more to give and commented after the event  “I’m obviously really happy but disappointed with my performance…. it was partly down to the conditions but I can perform a lot better than that. The result doesn’t show where I am at the minute but I’m fully confident that I can move forward.” Now on to the Commonwealth Games for Sophie with European Championship selection already settled.

I have until 14th July to try and run it and I’ve got the opportunity to run at the diamond league in Glasgow on 12th July so fingers crossed I can get close. I ran close to my pb 2days in a row so I would like to be able to break through to a new time! So pleased to get a senior uk medal, I feel like I’ve been working for it for a long time!”
