North West Road Relays – Saturday September 12th

A good day at the Relays for the Harriers – even after the last minute changes that are an inevitable part of putting Relay Teams together – the Club won two Team Golds, Team Silver and Team Bronze as well as two athletes taking the fastest leg runners of the Lancashire Teams.

The U13 Girls Team got us off to a great start with Amy Davies, Eleesha Charnley and Jess Watson pulling the Team through to 6th place overall – in a field of 22 Teams – and 1st Lancashire Team for the Gold Medal.. Amy ran the 2nd fastest leg of the day (11.01) and the fastest by any Lancashire girl which saw her win an individual medal to go with her Team Gold.

Not to be outdone, the U13 Boys  of Matt Ramsden, Ethan Rickard and Daniel Brown placed 10th overall – 18 Teams in total – and 1st Lancashire Team to earn the Club a second Gold on the day. Matt replicated Amy’s performance with the joint 2nd fast leg of the day (10.14) and the fastest by a Lancashire runner, earning him an individual medal as well as his Team Gold.

It wasn’t such a good day for the U15 Girls who had two teams in finishing 25th (‘B’) and 26th (‘A’) on the day out of 28 Teams. Hannah Cookson, Natalya Irvine and Katurah Bradley made up the ‘A’ Team with Chloe Bleeks, Anna Lonsdale and Freya Black comprising the ‘B’ Team. Nevertheless, they all got stuck in with two of the athletes having their first ever competition and one of them essentially a 200/300m runner.

The U17 Men’s Team won the 3rd Medal of the day when they took Silver in the Lancashire Championships with a team led off by Liam Atkinson, Tom McKee on 2nd and Zak Hargreaves on the final leg. The run on the day will is good preparation for the Northern Relays which follow in a weeks time at Blackpool.

Due to injuries the Senior Women were reduced to one Team – Katie Buckingham, Kaylie Panaro and Carol Cookson – finishing 34th of the 47 Teams completing on the day and 10th team in the Lancashire Championships contested by 16 Teams. Lindsay Davies who had lost her team mates to injuries nevertheless still wanted to run and ran her Leg in 29.32.

The fourth Medal of the day was won by the Men’s Senior ‘A’ Team comprising – Zac Howe, Karl Billington, Joe Monk and Tim Raynes – who did really well to finish 6th overall of the 76 Teams competing and 3rd Lancashire Team to secure a Bronze Medal.

The ‘B’ Team  had David Almond on lead leg with Joe Howe 2nd, Jason Harbour 3rd and John Cookson on the ‘glory leg’.
