After a great first season in the 2013 YDL Upper Age Group Division Two, with the Harriers being promoted to Division One as Champions, there was an air of expectation approaching the first fixture at Bebbington. It turned out be a cracking day, with fine performances, lots of individual event wins and PB’s. Above all it was a tremendous Team performance with every athlete on the day making a contribution to the victory margin of 64 points from Wigan in 2nd place and Trafford in 3rd.

In the U20’s there were wins for Joe Pearse in the 400m (55.4); 110mH Hurdle ‘B’ (17.0 sec); Javelin (38.32m) and High Jump (1.90). Jack Hindle, who had gone to work at 5.00pm in the morning, and whose dad drove him over to the fixture to do the 3000m which was an exemplary act of Team commitment, duly won the 3000m in 9.42.7. Connor Makin took two wins on the day with a PB in the 400m Hurdles (57.3) and 110m Hurdles (16.5). Rob Savage showing almost flawless technique at the water jump won the 2000m Steeple Chase  (7.03.8) and Joseph Howe backed that up by winning the 2000m Steeple Chase ‘B’ (7.27.0) and also ran the 1500m in 4.26.5. Sister Phoebe Howe won the ‘B’ 400m (66.5) and placed 3rd in the 300m Hurdles (52.6). Jacinta Davison won the U20’s Hammer (15.53m); Lottie Latham-Taylor won the Javelin ‘B’ (18.96m) and Jane Saothong jumped a new PB in the Long Jump ‘B’ winning with 4.03. Better performance for Paul Coffey in the 100m (3rd) equaling his PB of 11.6 and running 23.2secs in the 200m (3rd). Katie Buckingham took a 2nd place in the 400m Hurdles (72.0) and Roxanne Oliver won the ‘B’ Race (71.3). Ben Aspinall put in a solid set of performances with a 3rd in the ‘B’ 100m (12.2); 2nd in the ‘B’ Javelin (25.00m); 2nd in the ‘A’ Long Jump (5.83m) just 2cm short of his PB and 3rd in the ‘A’ Triple Jump (12.49m).

In the U17’s Byron Abbott, who has been plagued by injuries won the 800m (2.14.2) and took 2nd in the 300m with 10.32.5. Amber Swinnerton, running 2nd Claim for Blackburn had a great debut taking the 200m ‘B’ in 27.8; the 300m Hurdles ‘B’ (48.7) and a 4th placed 44.4 in the ‘A’ 300m. After the fixture Amber told us can i just say thankyou so much for such a good day enjoyed it so much you were all so loverly and you included me in everything, I really appreciate it I was really nervous that I would run badly for you and you made it feel like there was no pressure at all so thankyou could you say thankyou to any athletes who aren’t in this conversation like the lads, I hope I did okay for you really enjoyed it amber x”

Continuing with the U17’s Liz Greenwood won the 800m in 2.25.1 and Grace Handley won the ‘B’ Race (2.27.5). Both Liz and Grace then went on to win the ‘A’ and ‘B’ 3000m with Liz clocking 10.40.3. Morgan Angland had a great day too. She took one win and two seconds but recorded PB’s in all three events starting with the 80m Hurdles 1st (12.4); 100m 2nd (13.5) and Long Jump 2nd (4.72m). Polly Pearse won the 80mHurdles ‘B’ Race (13.4) and then added the High Jump for a good double (1.48m). Rebecca Orrell carried on where she left off at Wigan the previous day by winning the Hammer with a new PB of 46.18m, which means she set 4 PB’s in two days in the same event – training must be going well! She also took 2nd place (23.60m) in the Discus and 4th in the Shot Putt (8.47m). Olivia Wilson showed great Team spirit by missing the start of her own birthday party to make sure that we had a full team for the 4 x 100m Relay. Olivia Brooks jumped 8.20m in the Triple Jump (4th) and 1.40m in the High Jump (4th).

Jake Almond set a new PB in winning the 200m in 23.2secs after posting 11.9secs for 2nd place in the 100m. A really good weekend for Jake with three wins and a second in four races. Huzaifa Hanif had a great day knocking three seconds off his PB to finish 2nd in the 400m (55.5) and then jumping 1.50m in the High Jump (3rd).  New member Lewis Jardine who hasn’t competed for quiet a while, also had a really promising start with a 2nd place in the ‘B’ 400m (57.1) and 3rd in the 1500m ‘B’ (4.58.5). Chris Dulling in his debut on the Track ran the 800m and ran a pretty good time of 2.21.7 and backed that up with a 4.57.s in the 1500m. Jamie Bamber, competing 2nd Claim for Blackburn took a solid 2nd place in the 100m (16.0sec) and added another 2nd place finish in the Triple Jump (10.66m). Ross Liddle, another debutant on the Track for the Club ran 63.8 in the 400m Hurdles (2nd) and 4th in the Long Jump (5.06) which was a new PB by 6cm.. Connor Davison helped the Club pile up the points with 2nd in the Discus (24.13); 3rd in the Hammer (24.39) and 2nd in the Shot Putt (24.39).
