This years Green Drive hosted the Lancashire 5 Mile Road Championships attracting 323 runners on Sunday October 20th with 78 athletes entering the Championship Race.

On a weekend when Harriers were competing in a lot of events, in Cross Country, Road Races and Fell Relays seven Blackburn Harriers entered and posted good results with some winners amongst them in different categories. First home for the Club was Matt Lalor who took a really good 5th place overall and Bronze Medal in the Championships (27.02). Matt was followed in by Chris Davies in 18th and 9th in the Championships (29.24). Helen Leigh was the next Harrier in placing 46th (31.48) just pipping in V60 Evan Cook in 47th (31.49) who took the Lancashire Silver Medal in the V60 category. Although Helen was 5th woman overall in the Race, she also took the Lancashire Silver Medal. Blackburn Harriers also won the Team Gold Medal with Matt, Chris and Evan making up the winning Team.

John Cookson had a really good run in 84th (34.33) and just 3 seconds outside his PB – Jan Buckingham 225th (42.23) in her 5 mile debut looks as though she is ready to PB on her next 10k – and Carol Cookson 252nd (44.02) were the other senior athletes competing on the day.

The Cookson family, Mum and Dad were joined by daughter Hannah in the Junior Mile who produced another good performance showing her continuing improvement. Hannah finished in 3rd place overall (5.56) and 2nd Girl home in the mixed field of 77 Boys & Girls.
