Blackburn Harriers had a good turnout at the Northern XC Champs on 25th January at Knowsley Safari Park. Yet again the Cluib came away with a medal and continued it’s good run of recent years.

The U15 Girls were the star performers. Liz Greenwood lead them home in 7th place with Grace Handley close behind in 9th. Both girls went for an individual medal and paid a little in the closing stages as they lost a few places each. But they had terrific runs and were rewarded with a Team bronze as Megan Clarkson, Kelsey Rutherford and Mollie Morton backed them up in good style.

The U13 Girls also performed well. Maddie Elliott ran her best ever race for 26th just ahead of Natalya Irvine in 39th. With Hannah Cookson, Emily Warren and Amy Dowsing all running well the girls finished a creditable 9th team.

The Senior men also completed a team with Matt Nuttall 84th, Tom Blaney 88th and Andrew Fleet 103rd leading them home for 18th place. Mark Irving, Chris Balderson, Allan Hartley, John Cookson and Ian Clarkson were the other members of the team.

Robert Warner ran one of his last races as an U20 and perhaps his best XC run yet to take 14th place.

Pick of the other performances was Helen Leigh with 24th in the Senior ladies with Sarah Toms in 73rd. Jack Hindle ran a cracker in 29th in the U17 Mens race ahead of Robert Buckley and Morgan Phillips whilst in the U15 Boys Ben Dowsing made only his 2nd appearance for Harriers in 142nd.
