Matt breaks Junior Course Record at Witton Trail Relays – New PB’s for Harriers at Trafford – Rachael Wins Clan 5k
Witton Trail Relays – Thursday June 27th
A fabulous warm summers evening was the prefect setting for the latest Witton Park Trail Relays held in Witton Park featuring 3 x 3.65km legs with 150m of ascent. One hundred and thirty three teams of 3 entered the event with the proceeds being givento ‘Doing it for Laura’ and Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue Team.

Blackburn Harriers field 18 Teams on the night finishing in 3rd; 5th; 12th; 17th; 18th; 23rd; 26th; 29th; 37th; 42nd; 52nd; 56th; 73rd; 77th; 82nd; 86th; 90th and 91st. ‘The Solicitors’ comprising Josh Holgate (14.54), Chris Davies (15.28) and Tim ‘went the wrong way’ Raynes (16.02) came in 3rd with a combined time of 46.24 behind Race Winners Horwich Young Guns (Horwich RMI) in 44.19 and ‘The Old Gits’ (Horwich RMI) in 45.39.
The Harriers 2nd team home – ‘3 of a kind’ – ran a combined time of 46.33 with Tom Marchant on Leg (1) clocking 15.20, Nick Smith on Leg (2) in 16.25 and Matt Ramsden, anchoring the final leg for the Harriers Team had a brilliant run to break the existing Junior Course record set by Josh Boyle (14.50) when he crossed the line in 14.48.

Fastest run by the Harriers women on the night came from Joanne Nelson who had stormer running 18.09 in Leg 2 of the ‘Game of Crones‘ with Lindsay Davies (21.03) and Nikki Hartley (23.53). U15’s ‘At least we wasn’t last’ had a good night as they came home in 17th overall with Zachary Walmsley on Leg (1) in 17.06, Dexta Thompson Leg (2) in 17.17 and Kyle Taylor-Pomfret on the final Leg running 17.36. They were just in front of another Junior team from the Harriers in 18th position ‘Blackburn’s Young Guns’ with Harvey Ashworth running 17.03 on leg (1), Hayden Mercer 17.43 on Leg (2) and Ethan Barbarewicz clocking 17.26 on Leg (3).

Trafford AC Grand Prix Open (Sprints/Hurdles/Jumps) – Tuesday June 25th
The 5000m at Trafford on Tuesdaye evening was won in a pretty swift time of 14.18.72 by Dominic Shaw in front of Matthew Crehan (14.44.98) and Karl Darcy (14.58.11). Three Blackburn Harriers lined up in this race and all of them produced new PB’s and led by Jacob Watson who clocked a sub 16 minute time of 15.59.59 which was a seven second improvement from his last race which was his first ever over the distance on the track. Next in was Tom Blaney starting the day off with a personal best of 16.26.0 and improving that to 16.23.77 and followed by Calum Holmes who took eleven seconds off his previous best to set a new PB time of 17.28.29.
In the U17 Women’s 80m Hurdles, Myah Booth clocked 12.46 in 3rd place as Imogen Mansfield and Liberty Thompson competed in the mixed age group of men and women and geatruing Olympian Jazmine Sawyers. It was a good night fror all three athletes as they mnanaged to meet and have their photo taken with Jazmine Sawyers. Imogen leapt out to 4.83m which was just 4cm shy of her personal best whilst Liberty posted a new PB of 4.06m.

CLAN FFS 5K – Wednesday June 26th
The second race back for Rachael Gavin in this local race featuring just twenty four runners in which Rachael was 1st Woman and picked up proizes for the second week running as he ran a time of 21.03 on this 5k course, crssong the line in 8th place overall.
