Lovely weather greeted the athletes at this years fourth fixture of the Mid Lancs T & F League at Leigh last weekend – July 25th – and although it was a holiday period there were still fifteen athletes from the Harriers competing on the day and setting nine new personal bests.

Paul Coffey doubled up in the Senior 100m and 200m with 2nd in the 100m (11.70) and then winning the 200m with 23.80. Tony Balko contested some of the Senior Throws with a 2nd place in the Hammer (27.37m) and a 3rd in the Discus of 30.73m and a seasons best. Ever present U15 Throws duo – Anthony Kent and Lucas Davies – were out again with Anthony coming 2nd in the Shot Putt with 10.82m which was a new PB by nearly a metre, got another 2nd in the Discus (28.49m) and made it three 2nd places on the day in the Hammer with 29.45m. Lucas took 6th spot int he Shot Putt with 7.52m, 7th in the Discus (22.56m) and 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 18.07m.

Jamie Teare had a good day and set a new PB in the U13’s 200m (3rd) in 31.30 and in winning the 1500m in 4.56.20 just missed setting another PB by half a second. In the High Jump, Jamie won the competition and added 8cms to he is previous best height to record a new PB of 1.40m. Daniel Brown, also running in the 1500m did set a new PB with his 9th placed time of 5.21.40, nearly three seconds up of his previous best and also competed in the Long Jump (16th) and a jump of 3.49m. New member Jonathan Gough was at his first competitive meeting for the Harriers and jumped 3.73m in the U13 Boys Long Jump (10th) in the 18 strong field.

In the U15’s Hannah Cookson took 3rd spot in the 200m with 28.70 and 3rd again in the 800m in 2.30.20, a race won by Maddie Elliott in fine style (2.25.50). Maddie also took 3rd place in the 300m with a time of 47.10 – a new PB by nearly a second. Chloe Bleeks ran in the 2nd Heat of the 300m taking 6th spot in 48.20 for a new PB by a full second and also ran 30.20 in the 200m for 3rd place. Hannah and Chloe both went in the Long Jump with Hannah jumping 3.95m (11th) and Chloe in her first ever Long Jump performed well for 3.72m (14th). Amy Davies took on the 1500m and finished 3rd with a time of 5.23,00. Starting off the season with 5.42, Amy has made good progress in this event.

U13 Emily Raine was just outside her 100m PB when she won the Race in 13.7 and similarly for Olivia Blow who ran 14.80 in 3rd place in Heat 2 of the 100m; Olivia then set a new PB in the Long Jump (9th) with 3.72m and another new PB in the Shot Putt (2nd) with 6.84m. Eleesha Charnley finished 10th out of eighteen runner sin the U13 800m with a time of 2.52.90, less than a second outside her PB and was just outside her PB again in the Long Jump where 24 athletes competed with Eleesha in 17th (3.46m) and added to those events a Shot Putt of 4.55m (10th). Myah Booth continues with her good season so far with a big new PB by 2 metres in the Javelin finishing 3rd with a throw of 18.91m and equaling her PB in the 100m finishing 2nd in 15.10 in Heat 4.
