Mid Lancs Track & Field May 18th
Another murky, wet and chilly day at the Track at Preston for the second Mid Lancs Fixture of the season (May 18th) – yet 35 Blackburn Harriers all turned out to compete – And just a word of thanks to our Officials who were there all day finishing around 6:30pm in the evening.
Lots of good performances and effort by the athletes and too many to mention but –

Paul Coffey in the Senior Men 200m (24.40); Rebecca Orrell U17 Womens Hammer (34.82m) and Ben Aspinall U17 Triple Jump (11.28m) led the way with individual wins in their events. There were a number of other fine performances on the day in not ideal conditions. Deni Impett in the U15 Girls 1500m came 2nd in just one second outside her PB which is a great start to her season; Grace Handley in the U15 800m knocked three seconds off her PB saying the “leader went off so fast”. Jake Almond ran two really good races and is showing a return to form after injury and missing training with a 12.00sec 100m and then a 23.90sec 200m. 15yr old Joe Monk was just two tenths of a second outside his PB for 1500m in 4:37.70 (U17 Men)
18yr old Corie Shorrock, making a welcome return to training kicked off his first competitive event for a number of years to throw 22.14m in the Discus, 9.77m in the Shot – he also threw himself in at the deep end in the 200m and ran a solid race in 26.40sec. Nathan Billington came 2nd in the U17 Mens Hammer (34.04); Connor Davison 3rd in the U15 Boys Shot along with Harriers – Cameron Massey (7.22m) – Jacob Roberts (6.01m). Connor added a 4th (22.35m) in the Discus and 2nd in the Hammer (23.40m). Father and son duo, Paul and Jack Wilkinson also contested the Throws with Jack in the U15 Boys Javelin posting 20.60m with dad Paul competing in the Javelin; Shot (7.21m) and Discus (20.99m).
One of the highlights of the day was the Clubs U15 Girls Relay Team of Morgan Angland, Olivia Wilson, Elizabeth Ashcroft and Kayla Masterson. They had all done a number of events on the day but were insistent on staying at the track and competing in the Relay. Great team spirit and a joy to see.
