A pretty awful day greeted the athletes at Lancaster for the latest fixture in this years Mid Lancs League with a really strong wind which meant running into a brick wall on the back straight and some of the Throws events also going into the wind. Not withstanding, the younger athletes managed to rack up half a dozen new PB’s on the day.
RESULTS
Connor Davison took on three of the Throws events gaining two second and one third place in Shot Putt (2nd) with 8.86m which was a new PB; 2nd in the Discus (28.14m) and 3rd in the Javelin with 30.78m.
Wayne McIntosh was also among the new PB’s with a throw of 6.68m in the Shot Putt (4th) and another by 4 metres in the Javelin with 23.04m (5th). U17 Anthony Kent took on Shot Putt, Discus and Hammer and had a good day with a 2nd in the Shot Putt with a throw of 11.25m, just 4cms off his best, winning the Discus with a throw of 39.99m and winning again in the Hammer with a throw of 39.88m. Training partner Lucas Davies also had a very good day with two new PB’s placing 7th in the Discus with 23.35m and 7th again in the Javelin with 25.12m. In the U15 Boys, Alex Bernstein continued on his winning way with another 1st place in the Hammer (39.07m).This season has been very impressive for Alex. Having had nineteen competitions so far he has racked up 14 wins and 5 second places which is a pretty impressive record.
U15 Ben Whittaker in his first season and is doing very well setting a 100m new PB of 13secs (6th) and saying he was he “was really pleased with his new pb time”. He backed that up in the 200m with a time of 27.10secs (6th) and in his first ever Javelin competition, he came 4th overall with throw of 22.05m. Brother George Whittaker (U13) was also among the action where in the Long jump he “just missed out on his target of 4.15m as he got called a no jump & finished 8th (3.71m) but was pleased with his technique after having had problems since his ankle injury”. In the Javelin George threw 19.63m and said “he was disappointed” and finished off in the 200m (4th) in a time of 31.60sec.
Sam Pearson-Moore (U17) took 4th spot in the Javelin with a throw of 35.06m. In the U13 Girls Throws Myah Booth, Nicola Saunders and Caterina Lombard were all in action with Nicola and Caterina embarking on their first season in athletic competition.There were an astonishing number of 27 athletes competing in the Shot Putt with Myah taking 3rd place (7.69m), Nicola 22nd (4.83m) and Caterina (24th) with a throw of 4.53m. On to the Discus where Nicola took a very good 2nd place (15.21m) with Caterina throwing 11.95m (6th). In the Javelin Myah placed 2nd out of another big field of 20 athletes with a throw of 19.64m, with Caterina in 12th place (11.55m) and Nicky 14th (11.06m). U13’s Kieran Carroll and Kyle Taylor-Pomfret also featured in the throws with Kieran finishing 7th of 11 throwers in the Shot Putt (5.93m) and 5th out of 17 in the Javelin with a throw of 24.21m while Kyle came 5th out of 11 in the Discus with 12.97m and 6th out of 17 in the Javelin (21.74m).
On the Track where there was little to no possibility of PB’s for Middle Distant events, U15 Leon Thomas ran a very good tactical race to take 3rd place with a time of 2.28.10, while training partners Matt Ramsden and Jamie Teare decide to run the 1500m with Matt taking 2nd spot in 5.00.70 and Jamie 3rd in 5.05.40, all times well outside their personal bests, but understandable in the conditions. Jamie also took on the High Jump placing 7th with a clearance of 1.35m. Brother Rory Teare (U13) ran a time of 32.10 in the 200m (5th) and cleared 1.20m in the High Jump (9th). U15
Emily Warren was just one tenth off her previous best time in the 100m finishing second in 13.20, going on to win the 200m in a time of 27.60. U15 Amy Davies also ran a very good tactical race to win the 1500m in 5.26.00 which was a good time given the conditions whilst Hollie Cubbon ran in the U13 1500m coming home in 2nd place with a time of 5.39.20. Ella Hardman ran the 200m Heat placing 7th in a time of 32.40. There was another massive field in the U13 Long Jump and one can only empathise with the officials for such a large event. Emma Love did very well to take 7th spot with a leap of 3.78m whilst Ella Hardman placed 23rd (3.12m).

Northern League Match 3 held at West Cheshire
A better day on Sunday for the third fixture in this years Northern League at Ellesmere Port with sunshine and relatively light winds. Making his competitive debut for the Harriers was Brandon Zinyemba in the ‘A’ 100m (5th) in 11.7 and 4th in the ‘B’ 200m with a time of 24.5 which was a good start for him. Oliver Aspden ran a seasons best in the ‘B’ 100m (12.7) whilst Connor Makin set a new PB in the ‘A’ 200m (4th) 24.00. Bottom of age U17 – Chloe Bleeks – who has moved into the Sprint Group came 6th in the ‘A’ 100m (13.9) with Morgan Angland 5th in the ‘B’ (13.7). Chloe posted a time of 28.6 in the ‘A’ 200m with back up from Phoebe Howe in the ‘B’ (5th) in 30.6.
In his first competitive run over 400m since 2012, Rob Warner set a time of 54.4 (5th) in the ‘A’ with Ross Liddle – recently qualified for English Schools – taking 2nd spot in the ‘B’ with 53.8 whilst in the Women’s 400m, Phoebe Howe placed 6th in a time of 71.5. Rob and Karl Billington took on the 800m with Rob 4th in the ‘A’ (1.58.8) and Karl 6th in the ‘B’ (2.14.7). Phoebe took 6th place in the Women’s 800m (2.51.6) with Rachel Wood running 2.31.1 for a good 2nd place in the ‘B’ Race.
The Men’s 1500m Race provided some very good running with Zac Howe who recently competed at the British Championships over 800m, coming home in 2nd place in the ‘A’ with a huge new PB of 3.59.9, chopping eight seconds off his previous best time, backed up by Tim Raynes in the ‘B’ which he won, also in a massive new PB time by 11 seconds of 4.07.8. It was a Rachel ‘double act’ in the Women’s 1500m with Rachel Jones 3rd in the ‘A’ (4.59.1) and Rachel Wood winning the ‘B’ with a time of 5.16.8. The two of them continued winning great points for the team in the 3000m with Rachel Jones 3rd in the ‘A’ (10.37.3) and Rachel Wood making a double win for her in the ‘B’ (11.04.9). In the Men’s 5000m Ben Fish placed 2nd in the ‘A’ Race with Joe Monk winning the ‘B’ in a time of 16.06.0 which was his first ever race over 5000m on the Track. It was another win double in the 3000m Steeplechase for Joseph Howe showing real courage and determination in the ‘A’ (10.31.8) after falling on the last lap and having to enter into a sprint down the home straight to hold of David Rigby. In the ‘B’ it was another new PB for Chris Davies who won in a time of 10.44.3.
In the 100m Hurdles Morgan Angland placed 4th in a time of 16.7 with Oliver Aspden winning the ‘A’ 110m Hurdles in a time of (18.3). There was a double win in the Men’s 400m Hurdles – Ross Liddle taking the ‘A’ Race comfortably in 57.7 and Connor Makin the ‘B’ in 61.7. There was only three women in the 400m Hurdles which saw Phoebe Howe take a 2nd place in the ‘A’ (84.8).
In the Jumps Oliver Aspden took 2nd in the ‘A’ High Jump with 1.65m and John iLunga 3rd in the ‘B’ (1.55m) – in the Long Jump Tom Doherty placed 5th in the ‘A’ with 4.85m and Joe Howe 6th in the ‘B’ (3.80m) whilst Morgan Angland had a seasons best in the Women’s ‘A’ Long Jump (4.66m). Tom then cleared 12.31m in the Triple Jump for a very good 2nd place and just 30cm behind the winner with Zac Howe filling in for the ‘B’ in 5th spot (7.56m). Chloe Bleeks who has recently taken on the Triple Jump cleared 8.82m in the Women’s ‘A’ (6th).
Simon Brown placed 5th in the Shot Putt with 10.89m and threw a seasons best in the ‘B’ Hammer of 24.73m. Tony Balko cleared 9.07m in the ‘B’ Shot Putt (5th), 28.35m in the Discus (6th), 30.48m in the Hammer and 29.67m in the Javelin. U17 Sam Pearson-Moore set a new PB of 38.54m (5th) in the ‘A’ Javelin which was a really good performance by him. Another athlete who qualified for English Schools – Rebecca Orrell – threw 41.77m in the ‘A’ Hammer (3rd), 16.82m in the Javelin (6th) and a seasons best 25.46m in the Discus (4th). Morgan Angland – 6th in the Javelin with 11.20m and Phoebe Howe – 6th in the Discus (11.09m) also helped the team out in the Throws.

Rob Warner and Joe Monk were out at Stretford on Tuesday 28th June in a meeting which can only be described as packed. Rob was going for the 1500m and Joe the 3000m.
Rob wasn’t overly happy with his race in the BMC Gold Standard 1500m where he placed 9th out of a field of 17 in a time of 3.57.17 saying afterwards that it “Wasn’t the best run the other night, didn’t really commit to the pace early on and then didn’t have a great finish either so was left in the middle really and was an average run to be honest!”
Joe had to settle for the 800m in the Grand Prix which in the end, worked out well for him as he secured a new PB by a second and a half, running 2.06.05. Joe commented that he “ran in the Stretford meet last night. I was going to do the 3k, but delays with the traffic meant I had to switch to plan B and do the 800m. The race went off really quick and I was some 2 seconds off the group, they went through the bell in 58/59 seconds as I approached it in 61, I then started to catch a few as I felt really strong and came through in 2:06.05”.
