Samantha talks about the Harriers

 Samantha Murray recently spoke to the delegates at a BUCS Conference on University Sport at Twickenham and part of what she said on the day included a piece on her Club – Blackburn Harriers and this is what she had to say:

“Blackburn Harriers support my training and competitions as well as the dedicated club members who turn up every session to both train and coach members: they educate their coaches and celebrate successes. They create a team and community spirit by simple things like having a team tent at cross country events where hot drinks and chairs provide a bit of comfort for parents and athletes.

They have training for all events and abilities from local leagues, sports hall events for youngsters and the London Marathon. They encapsulate and engender community and team spirit. They chase funding for the club and for athletes and offer a Lancashire welcome that makes members feel loyalty and belonging. What they do isn’t just about sport itself- it is about making people feel supported and valued – they encourage young people and their families to recognise that everyone can find a sport to suit them and that everyone can participate – from being a course marshal or competing in the shot put. “
