Two Teams out in the Senior Women’s Race with the ‘A’ Team of Samantha Murray, Liz Greenwood, Rachel Wood and Grace Handley putting in a pretty good performance to finish 14th overall in the 64 Team competition. Again in the Women’s Race four Teams were disqualified with a runner in each team going into the finish too early which really shouldn’t be happening in a Championship.

Senior Women’s RESULTS

Olympian Samantha Murray, led the ‘A’ Team off on the first Leg in 40th place in a time of 20.07. Having attacked the first lap, Sam found the second lap much tougher and handed over to Liz Greenwood coming back from injury (18.48) who ran a very good Leg to improve the Team position by 13 places. Rachel Wood who is training for a half marathon was strong and posted the fastest leg for the Team (18.35) and pulled back another 12 places in handing over to Grace Handley (19.35), another athlete coming back from long term injury who held onto 14th spot.

Yarrow River Splash 10k Trail Run

Madness sometimes takes over and Blackburn Harrier V40 John Cookson certainly threw himself into the ‘drink’ along with one hundred and sixty other runners. After finishing a very good 15th overall in a time of 50.34 he told the Club “What a cracker. The course was a real mix. The terrain was a bit of trail mixed with XC, Witton trail relay , millennium way relay, road and the course undulated from start to finish. Add to that 2 river crossings and it was treat of an event. Contrary to the photos it did not include open water swimming. On the plus side I came 15th. Nose bleed territory that for me. Time of 50.34 which sort of indicates how tough the course was”. V45 Michael Sharp also threw himself into the event and finished 58th in a time of 61.52.
