U17 Women’s RESULTS
Back to the Senior Men with the ‘B’ Team who ran consistently well with just a minute between the slowest and fastest Legs. Andy Buttery took Leg one (18.41) to hand over to Conrad Mckee in 55th place who posted a time of 19.47 handing over to Shaun Livesey (8.57) who took back four places to bring the Team into 56th position. Chris Davies took Leg 4 running the fastest leg of the day for the Team in 18.15 and as result clawed back a huge 12 places to leave us 44th place. Tom Blaney (19.21) pulled back another 5 places to leave Derek Reilly on the last Leg in 39th place finishing with a time of 19.41 and placing the Team in 43rd place.
The ‘C’ Team showed some consistent running with four of the runners having just 22 seconds between them – new member Ben Costello ran 20.24, John Sutton 20.02, Sean Proctor 20.09 and Stephen Schofield 20.22. With Joe Howe running 19.27 on Leg one and the fastest Leg for the Team on Leg 2 (19.07) the Team finished in 63rd place.
Unfortunately the ‘D’ Team got disqualified with one of the runners having gone in early along with a number of other runners in other Teams which led to six disqualifications altogether. Results for the Team were Paul Wilkinson (26.10), John Cookson (22.26), John Chaplin who had a heavy fall during the Race (22.35), Danny Maynard (21.46) and fastest Leg of the day, followed by Michael Sharp (25.35).
Two Teams out in the Senior Women’s Race with the ‘A’ Team of Samantha Murray, Liz Greenwood, Rachel Wood and Grace Handley putting in a pretty good performance to finish 14th overall in the 64 Team competition. Again in the Women’s Race four Teams were disqualified with a runner in each team going into the finish too early which really shouldn’t be happening in a Championship.
Senior Women’s RESULTS
Olympian Samantha Murray, led the ‘A’ Team off on the first Leg in 40th place in a time of 20.07. Having attacked the first lap, Sam found the second lap much tougher and handed over to Liz Greenwood coming back from injury (18.48) who ran a very good Leg to improve the Team position by 13 places. Yarrow River Splash 10k Trail Run
Madness sometimes takes over and Blackburn Harrier V40 John Cookson certainly threw himself into the ‘drink’ along with one hundred and sixty other runners. After finishing a very good 15th overall in a time of 50.34 he told the Club “What a cracker. The course was a real mix. The terrain was a bit of trail mixed with XC, Witton trail relay , millennium way relay, road and the course undulated from start to finish. Add to that 2 river crossings and it was treat of an event. Contrary to the photos it did not include open water swimming. On the plus side I came 15th. Nose bleed territory that for me. Time of 50.34 which sort of indicates how tough the course was”. V45 Michael Sharp also threw himself into the event and finished 58th in a time of 61.52.
