A great way to start off this weeks report on all things Blackburn Harriers begins in Cardiff at the British U23 Track & Field Championships where Abigail McAndrew was looking to carry on what has been a very good season for her so far – setting new personal bests at 800m,1500m and recently in the Northern League West Premier Division over 3000m too. The Final was a tactical race – as Championship races often are – times being secondary to the pursuit of a medal and getting on the Podium. Abigail moved into Bronze Medal position coming off the final bend and finished strongly to get on to the Podium with a Bronze Medal and told the Harriers after the race that she was “So happy to be back on a national podium, very tactical race with a 60 sec last lap, looking forward to the rest of the season“. Match 3 in the UKYDL (Lower Age Grouo) North West 1 Division took place at Macclesfield on Sunday June 29th and followed closely fought wins for the Harrier sin the first and second matches. The results from Match 3 are provisional at the moment, but if approved will show that the Club placed 2nd by just a handful of points behind West Cheshire. This was an excellent performance even though we lost our undefeated record, simply because it was achieved by a number of newer athletes coming to the fore and others filling in for those who were missing – producing 21 wins and 18 new PB’s.. Going into the final Match on July 20th at Ellesmere Port, the Harriers remain in first place with 17 League points with West Cheshire in 2nd (16 points) – so everything to play for the in the last Match in terms of winning the title.
