This years BUCS track and field championships took place in Cardiff from May 2nd through to May 4th. Blackburn Harriers Abigail McAndrew went in the 1500m and in the second of the Heats, she took the win in a time of 4.38.69 to qualify for the semi-final. In the first semi-final Abigail won again with an improved time of 4.26.93 to go through to the Final on the last day of the championships. In the Final she won the Gold Medal, clocking a seasons best 4.24.13 with a sprint on the home straight. Three races, three wins and the Gold Medal. What a cracking weekend for her and what a way to open the season. Speaking to the Harriers after being presented with her Gold Medal, Abigail told us that she was “Soo happy to come away with the win at BUCs 1500m, a very long but fun weekend of racing, great way to start the season!! looking forward to the rest of the season now“. Blackburn Harriers Isabel Holt went in the 5000m which was a straight final featuring twenty athletes. Charlotte Dannatt took the win and the Gold Medal in a time of 16.01.18. Isabel finished in 14th place clocking 17.14.65 and told us after her race had finished that it was “Not my best performance today. Didn’t have the legs to stick with the pace but BUCS is always an amazing event to be apart of and I’m so happy for all the great performances we had from Leeds.” (RESULTS)
