Blackburn Harriers Agatha Taylor went on a road trip to Loughborough on Saturday to run a BMC 800m race in which she was the only U15 and up against four U17 and one U20 athletes. (RESULTS). Agatha placed 4th overall in a time of 2.16.68 which is a reflection of how consistent she has been over the distance and her second fastest time of the season so far.
Sunday June 2nd was the date of this years Morecambe 10k featuring two hundred and thirty five runners. The race was won by Border Harriers athlete – Nathan Postill in a time of 31.55, some four minutes in front of 2nd and 3rd places. Blackburn Harriers Lucy Smith was running her first race for the Club and it turned out to be a great debut as she won the Women’s race in a time of 42. 59
“The Wharfedale Trail Half Marathon is a 13.2 mile trail race flagged throughout the entire course. It affords participants and their families the opportunity to enjoy a great day out in some of Wharfedale’s finest scenery with over 2,000 feet of ascents the route follows well established footpaths, including the Dalesway and Mastiles Lane and for those with time to take in the fabulous scenery the views from Scott Gate, Mastiles and Boss Moor are quite breathtaking.” (Race Website). Two hundred and twenty six runners finished this race won by Ilkley’s Jack Cummings in 1hr.23.23. Blackburn Harriers Stephen Hall had a cracking top ten finish with his time of 1hr 37.51 in 8th place. (RESULTS).
Saturday June 1st in glorious sunshine saw the fourth race in this years Pendle & Burnley Grand Prix Series take place which was the Kelbrook Fell race. Louisa Powell-Smith continued her good season with another win, first woman across the finishing line in a time of 27.41 and 27th overall out of a field of 172 runners. (RESULTS).
Danny Maynard was out in the triathlon again this last weekend, this time at the Standard Distance at Ullswater which consists of a 1500m swim, 44k bike ride and 10k run. Danny posted times of 31.21minutes for his swim, 1hr 35.42 for his bike ride and 40.50 for his 10k run – giving him a combined time of 2hr 54.17 and 62nd place out of 191 athletes. (RESULTS).
In the Sprint Relay – Team Gardner/Murphy/Addy – finished 3rd of 8 teams with a combined time of 1 Hr 55.44 (RESULTS). Gardner set the ball running with a time of 13.22 – the fastest of the day for the swim, followed by Blackburn Harriers duo – Jonny Murphy on the bike ((1hr 21.35) and Richard Addy on the run with a time of 17.28 and the fastest of all the runs.
