Alison Leonard set her second 1500m Indoor PB at the Glasgow Grand Prix on Saturday which was televised live on the BBC. After finishing 4th with a PB time of 4.11.28 in Ireland at the AIT International Grand Prix she then went and reduced her PB time to 4.10.77 in Glasgow, making in two new personal bests inside just four days.

Alison’s next Race will be at the British Trials this coming weekend and with her success over the last two Races will we see a hat-trick on new personal bests. After her Glasgow Race, Alison told the Club that she was “Really pleased with it, was a faster pace than Wednesday so was tying up a bit by the end but good to try something different. Really fun event, enjoyed competing today!”

British University Championships at the EIS Stadium Sheffield
Paul Coffey, Ben Aspinall, Joe Pearse, Katie Buckingham and Roxanne Oliver were all competing at this years BUCS Championships in Sheffield, it being the first time for the athletes with the exception of Joe who had competed at the Championships in 2015.

It was the first competitive outing of the season for Paul Coffey who is at UCLAN and found himself in Heat 4 out of 14 Heats in the Men’s 60m where he finished 4th in a slightly improved PB of 7.52.

Ben Aspinall contested both Triple Jump and Long Jump. It was Ben’s second outing of the Indoor season in the Triple Jump after winning the Silver Medal at the Northern Championships in January. In his semi-final he jumped into 8th place with 13.09m which wasn’t quite enough to gain him qualification for the Final. In the Long Jump semi-final he placed 14th with a leap of 5.47m.
In the High Jump Joe Pearse who has already cleared 2.00m during the Indoor Season at Lee Valley, cleared 1.95m in his semi-final to qualify as one of five athletes all clearing the same height to get into the Final. Joe improved his height in the Final with a jump of 1.98m to place 9th.
Katie Buckingham competed in the 800m which was her second only race in the Indoor season, her first being the Steel Cup in Sheffield where she ran 2.37.01 in 5th place. She improved quite significantly in her race at Bucs, knocking over five seconds off her previous run and said afterwards that she “came in 3rd in my heat in 2.31.34, it started really slow then the last 300 was a sprint which I faired quite well in”

Roxanne Oliver qualified from her Heat in the 60m Hurdles in 2nd place with SB 9.42 which took her into the Semi-Final where she finished 6th in 9.43 which was pretty consistent. Again, this was only Roxie’s second competition during the Indoors, her first being a 3rd place in the Steel Cup and a PB of 9.41. Roxie said she“‘Absolutely loved my first experience at BUCS. It was the biggest competition I’ve ever done and I was delighted to make the semi finals in what is my weakest hurdle event”.
