Saturday 11th saw 21 Blackburn Harriers athletes make the trip to Barrow in Furness for race 4 of the Mid Lancs Cross Country League. As 10 of those were Senior men it’s perhaps fair for them to receive first mention this week.
Matt Nuttall lead them home with a fine 7th place and first VET. Paul Guinan 11th, Tom Blaney 18th, Shaun Livesey 24th, Chris Davies 27th and Chris barnes 37th brought the harriers home first team on the day. Andrew heys and Allan hartley were the next 2 in before VETS Richard taylor and Ian Clarkson brough home the VETs team for 9th place.
The victory for the men gives them the Division 3 title and promotion with a clean sweep of 4 victories.
The VET team lead Div 3 with 35 points from Barrow with 32. So a victory at Witton should clinch the VET Title and promotion as well.
The day kicked off with U11 Girl Amy Davies taking another victory. Kate Cookson had a fine race in 20th (still only 7!). In the U11 Boys Jamie Teare led the BBH runners again finishing in a fine 5th place with Edward Lee 18th and Rory Teare 22nd running well.
The U13 Girls saw Maddie Elliott take 5th place, her highest finish in a league race with Hannah Cookson just behind in 7th and in the U15 Girls Megan Clarkson also had her best finish taking 4th place.
Although we didn’t complete a ladies team for the first time in the Mid Lancs this season, we still had strong runs from Helen Leigh 4th and Sarah Toms 10th. The ladies currently sit in 3rd place, but a good showing at Witton should put us back in a promotion place.
Sunday 12th saw some quitea few BBH runners turn out for the Garstang 10K. U17M Joe Monk was our first runner home with a great run for 15th in 36:16 with John Chaplin and Michael Toms close behind. Sarah Toms made had a double header weekend finishing 9th lady. Charlotte Atkinson, Rhiannon Wickham and David Morris all completed for the Harriers.
