Ben Fish ran the Freckleton Half-Marathon last weekend on a hot day in June. The temperature always seem to go up on the day of this Race. Ben has a fabulous record in the Event. He first won it in 2007 and then went on to win it in 2008; 2009; 2010; 2011; 2012 and 2013 – seven wins in a row.

Speaking to Ben after the Race he told the Harriers that his aim was to go out very hard early. Describing it as “not his smartest race”, and whilst getting  “a big lead”  started to “lose ground in the last few miles”.

Not happy with running the time that he did saying that  “I don’t like running slower than 68 mins in half marathons” and need to be better in hot weather he summed up his record breaking win by saying that it was “a good win, but poor time”. He went on…“I think I have got the most wins now and it’s not something I would have expected when I first won this race in 2007, so it means a lot. I would love to win on the 50th anniversary next year”. And who would bet against that.

The Freckleton Race featured 635 runners, and Ben wasn’t the only Harrier to compete. In 125th place was V60 Graham Pomfret in a fine time of 1hr 37min 46sec. Graham has had a long term serious back injury so it is great to see him back racing again. Graham also took 2nd place in the V60 category which was won by Graham West from Lytham St Annes Road Runners. Paul Wilkinson also ran the Race coming 247th (1:48.56.
