Ben Fish who had raced at the Lancashire Cross Country Championships the week before, going over on his ankle a couple of times was keen to run in this Race as it was one he had targeted. In the end Ben had a really good run finishing 2nd in a time of 67.55 to Michael Kallenberg who won it in 67.06. After the Race Ben told the Club “Obviously I wasn’t happy with my run last week, but today felt like business as usual! Certainly a big improvement from the Lancs XC. Kallenberg got away after 10 miles, it was fairly close up to then”.

Rachel Wood was out racing for the first time in 2016 her last run being the Shakespeare Half-Marathon which she won in November 2015 (86.57). Those winter miles must be doing her good as she came 2nd in the Women’s Race at Helsby in a new PB time of 83.37 which cut a whopping 53 seconds off her previous best. She said afterwards that “I really enjoyed the race and got a pb!“
Meanwhile, John Orrell was out running to help raise money for those who unfortunately have been really badly affected by the recent floods. This is John having a “Grand Day Out” in Cumbria at the Askham 10 mile trial race, which was raising money for the Cumbria flood appeal and Patterdale Mountain Rescue. He completed the race in 1.49.27, despite the snow and ice.
