It has been well over a year and a half since Ben Makin ran a 10k road race, back in February 2023. At the weekend – Sunday 27th October – Ben was out in the Accrington 10k featuring 354 finishers in what has been for a few years now, a popular local road race. (RESULTS). It isn’t the easiest of courses and not personal best territory but that didn’t deter Ben who had a fine run to win the race in a time of 33.40 with Bury’s Christian Peters in 2nd place (34.26) and Clayton’s Peter Mackrell in 3rd (34.59). Speaking to the Harriers after his race, Ben told us that it  “Was fun to run the accy 10k today, had a real blast with it despite the amount of hills! Definitely something I’ve had on my bucket list for a while now, to win it was a huge bonus too !!“

Over in Americva David Holman was running his third cross country race of the season for Wingate University on Saturday October 26th at the South Atlantic Conference County Championships. (RESULTS). Wingate won the team event – out of 13 teams participating – with David coming home in 15th place overall in a time of 24.51.1. After his race David spoke to the Club about the day, telling us “Very happy with 15th at my first conference cross country. Was a very tough race on a tough course. Went with the pace at the front and went through the first 1k in 2:48, so after that I knew it was going to be tough. The wheels came off but still managed to hold on pretty well. Happy with how this cross season has gone and now full focus for the next 5 weeks is getting into shape for Boston track.
