Great news coming from the Club’s Sprints & Jumps Squad this week with regard to the forthcoming English Indoor Track & Field Championships. Qualifying from the squad for Blackburn Harriers are:-
U15 Daniel Nuttall in the 60m and 200m
U15 Jacob Fisher in the 60m
U15 Matthew Smith in the High Jump
U15 Millee Schofield 60m; 200m
U17 Kara Dacosta High Jump; 60m; 200m; 300m
U17 Thomas Monks 60m
U20 George Whittaker 60m
Some of the Squads athletes were in action over the weekend at Sportcity in the latest of the Winter Indoor Meetings held at the Stadium. U20 Multi-Eventer Poppy Preece had a good day – equalling her personal best in the 60m with an 8.59 clocking (5th), cleared 1.50m in the High Jump (=14th) before going on to set a new PB in the Long Jump with 4.46m (5th). U15 Millee Schofiled set off in great form with a win in her Heat of the 60m – posting a new PB of 8.20 and then set a seasons best for the 200m in 2nd place with a time of 27.01. Just one race for U15 Daniel Nuttall in which he was in blistering form as he won his Heat of the 200m in a new PB time of 24.13 to take him to 2nd spot in the National Rankings. U15 Multi-Eventer Matthew Smith took on the 60m Hurdles for the first time during this Indoor season and took 2nd spot in a time of 10.17 and went on to set a new PB in Shot Putt (4kg) of 8.07m which also earned him 2nd spot before finishing off with a 1.55m clearance in the High Jump (13th). U17 Kara Dacosta took on the 200m and High Jump resulting in two 2nd places for her featuring a seasons best 27.38 in the 200m and similalry in the High Jump with a 1.55m clearance. U20 Rory Teare was just 3cms outside his personal best in the High Jump Pool covering 18 athletes – clearing 1.75m for 7th spot. U20 Ben Boocock ran 9.42 in the 60m Hurdles in 5th place whilst over 600m U17 Hayden Mercer had his first outing of the Indoor season over 600m placing 5th in a time of 1.27.37.

Lancashire Sportshall Competition
What a year Blackburn Harrier’s Sportshall Squad is having. They won the first Match convincingly and have just gone and won the second Match similarly by some 200 points with a total of 580 from Chorley in 2nd place (372); Preston in 3rd (346); Blackpool 4th (251); Lancaster & Morecambe 5th (108); Kendal AC 6th (12) and Broughton Primary 7th. Going into the third and final Match, they remain undefeated and looking to make it three wins out of three.
