Thirteeen Blackburn Harriers were out at this Tuesday night meeting at Trafford – Brandon Zinyemba, Fawwaz Mustapha, John iLunga, Dominic Bretherton, Millie Coy, Charlie Coy, Liberty Thompson, Benjamin Whittaker, Ben Boocock, Samuel Mutombo, George Whittaker, Ben Branton and Thomas Monks.

RESULTS

Senior Brandon Zinyemba ran the 100m in Heat 2, clocking 11.32 in 3rd spot followed up by a seasons best of 23.30 in Heat 2 of the 200. U20 Fawwaz Mustapha also doubled up in the 100m & 200m placing 5th in Heat 5 of the 100m with a time of 11.46 before going on to set a new PB of 23.20 – an improvement by a tenth – in Heat 2 of the 200m. Senior John iLunga ran Heat 3 of the 100m coming home in 5th spot with a time of 13.06 and his first time out in a sprint race this year with Senior Dominic Bretherton setting a seasons best time of 12.15 in Heat 4 of the 100m (6th). U17 Samuel Mutombo was running just his third race of the year in Heat 7 of the 200m, it proving to be a good race for him as he won the Heat in a new PB time of 25.92, an improvement over his previous best of three tenths.

U23 Charlie Coy took on the 100m/200m double too recording a time of 13.75 (6th) in Heat 8 of the 100m and her first track race since August 2019 and then went on to run Heat 7 of the 200m clocking 28.29 in 5th spot. Sister Millie Coy (U20) took on the 100m where she ran 13.23 in her first 100m race of the year (4th) and then went on to the Long Jump – a mixed pool of 14 of 8 men and 6 women athletes – which saw Millie jump a distance of 4.88m, 11th overall and 3rd woman. U20 Liberty Thompson was another Blackburn Harrier contesting the sprint double, placing 4th in Heat 9 0f the 100m in 14.48 before going on to knock over half a second off her best, setting a new PB of 30.60.

U20 Benjamin Whittaker took on three events on the night – 200m, 400m and Long jump. He was just a fraction outside his best in the 200m, placing 5th with a time of 24.09, following that by his first ever competitive run over 400m, which saw him win his Heat in a time of 57.03. His third event was the Long Jump, his first competition this year, which saw him leap out to a distance of 5.41m. Brother George Whittaker (U20) also took on the 400m and Long Jump. In the 400m he clocked a time of 55.58 in 4th position, just nine hundreths outside his personal best before going on to jump 5.48m in the Long Jump. U17 Thomas Monks was another athlete who was just a whisker off his personal best as he ran a time of 53.68 in 3rd place of Heat 3 in the 400m’s.

It was a good night for U17 Hurdler Ben Boocock who in winning his Heat, set a new PB time of 14.60 and placed 2nd in his other event – the 200m – with a time of 25.15 and just four hundreths outside his best. U20 Ben Branton placed 4th overall in the Long Jump Pool with a leap of 5.73m – just outside his best of 5.83m. Agonisingly, Ben was just 2 cms outside his best in the Triple Jump, recording a leap of 11.30 against his best of 11.32m.
