The latest competition for Blackburn Harrier’s Hammer Thrower – Charlotte Williams – took place at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial Meeting on April 30th. This was the fifth competiton that she had been in this year in which she has recorded two wins, two second places and a 6th spot. On Friday her first round throw of 59.34 clinched the 2nd place, just 17 cms in front of 3rd placed athlete Chanell Botsis (59.17m). Charlotte shared her thoughts about the event afterwards with the Club, telling us that The last home meet wasn’t amazing but wasn’t terrible. I am working on my technique and I know this takes a long time to conquer! I am positive about my journey so far and I know it’s only going to get better. On to the next big competitions in 2 weeks time where I will hopefully perform and throw big!

Three cross country races in the whole of 2020 was all that was available for Ellen Sagar-Hesketh due to the truncated year that all of athletics has had to endure during the pandemic. At the weekend – May 2nd – Ellen entered a 5k Road Race at Prestwold Hall, going into it with a personal best time of 21.02. Her persistence in maintaining her training throughout this most difficult of years paid off big style and she was rewarded with a massive new PB of 19.59 – an improvement of over a minute. A very happy athlete spoke to the Harriers after the race to tell us that she Absolutely loved being back racing again! To get a big PB and sub 20 over 5km all in one is just amazing for me. I honestly believe a lot of good has come from not racing over the year. Ive managed to have a consistent and solid block of training uninterrupted and I feel ready for more racing this season!
