Chester Marathon – Sunday October 4th
Ben Fish had trained for the Nottingham Marathon and unfortunately had to pull out just over half way. One week later he was back running in the Chester Marathon which had two thousand eight hundred and eighty six runners lining up..

The Race was won by David Rigby who had a fine run in 2.24.47 with Ben coming in 3rd in a time of 2.27.47. After the Race Ben commented “a good result after a rough spell and dnf at Nottingham last week. Was going well up to 17 miles, had a gel that gave me an adverse reaction and I dived off into some bushes!! Started slowing a lot after 23 miles, secured 3rd by a mere 3 seconds”.
Also out for the Harriers at Chester was Claire Bridge who finished in 1645th spot in a new PB time of 4.31.05 which was a full six minutes off her previous best. Claire said she “was delighted to beat my previous PB by 6 minutes. It’s a hard race and not as flat as people make out. Roll on Manchester!“
Two more athletes who are 2nd Claim members of the Harriers ran new PB’s as well on the day which was good reward for the training they have been putting in. Joanne Nelson had a great run, finishing 45th in a new PB of 2.54.32 – some four minutes faster than her previous fastest time. She was also the 4th Woman home overall, missing the 3rd spot by just 5 seconds, but also was the 1st V40 Woman. Sean Proctor also had good run achieving his ambition of a new PB placing 134th in a time of 3.07.55.

Burnley Fire 10k
Bryan Searby and David Morris lined up amongst 207 runners at this Race on Sunday. V40 Bryan came in 50th with a time of 45.06 on not a very easy course to run. David placed 163rd in 58.21.

Park 5k Runs
Blackburn Harrier Tim Raynes won his second Witton Park 5k Run last Saturday – Oct 3rd – in a new PB time on the course of 16.30.

11yr old Daniel Brown had his first go at the Park 5k Run and went very well finishing 18th out of 175 runners in a time of 21.29. 10yr old Oliver Gill ran a new PB of 26.12 finishing 53rd. 7yr old Hannah Davies who ran in this for the first time, just beat her mum home placing 74th in 28.21 with mum Lindsay 75th in 28.30.

Liz Greenwood was another winner for the Harriers at the Burnley 5k Park Run where she finished 6th overall out of a big turn out of more than 300 runners in a time of 18.48 – a new PB on the Course and 1st Woman home. Shaun Livesey came in 2nd (18.05) in the Race after a close battle with the winner Jonathan Pye.

Yet another win for the Harriers, this time through U20 Joe Monk at the Preston 5k Park Run. Joe set a new PB on the course of 16.53 when he headed the 278 strong field for the win. U15 Freya Black who has been running in the road relays, tried her hand for the first time at a Park 5k and did well taking 126th position in 25.54.

Toughing it out with the Harriers took on a whole new meaning for some of the Clubs young Throwers and Sprinters. Under the watchful eye of their Coaches – Mick Hitchon and Iain Vickery, they had a day to remember!!
