At the Manchester International held at Sportcity on Wednesday 18th August, Blackburn Harrier Dominic Walton was selected to run for the National League Team in the Senior Men’s 800m on the back of his 1.48.95 clocking at the Loughborough BMC in July. His recent sub 48 clocking in the National League 4 x 400m Relay recently, showed he was in good form.
Of the six athletes in the Race, Dominic was fifth on paper in terms of personal and seasons best. The result demonstrated his good form as he overturned that paper form in finishing 2nd in 1.51.21 in a three way, thrilling battle for the podium places – the winner – Cardiff’s Ben Claridge – posting a time of 1.51.10. Following the Race, Dominic reflected on his run saying “I managed to beat some 1:47 runners and a 1:46 runner so I’m chuffed. It was typical of me to leave it too late again because I think gold was a possibility but then I can’t complain because there was only 0.01 between myself in silver and Rocco in bronze”.
