East Lancashire Hospice 10k & 2k Race
A great turnout for this locally held Race which was helping to raise money for the East Lancs Hospice – featuring four hundred and fifty seven runners and won by Danny Collinge in 34.20.4. There was also something for the youngsters too with a 2k Race.

Ten Blackburn Harriers featured in the 10k with Brian Fogarty who is preparing for a forthcoming Ironman competition leading them home in 4th place overall with a time of 36.23.8 and followed in quick succession by V45 Jonathan Bridge in 13th (38.08.9) and Richard Fogarty 14th in a time of 38.10.9. Jonathan won the 2nd V45 Prize.
Next in was V40 Allan Hartley in 31st in 40.07.9 which was just 19 seconds outside his PB and on a course that wasn’t that easy. New member Paul Slone (V45) came next in 50th with 43.21.8 and V50 Warren Smith just behind in 52nd (43.27.6). Michael Sharp (V45) was carrying an injury but still managed a time of 47.38.1 in 110th place and was followed in by V40 Lorna Sharp who ran a PB on the course in 197th with a time of 52.51.5, Claire Bridge in 216th with 54.50.6 and V50 David Morris (349th) in 63.36.2.
In the youngsters 2k Boys Race – Saul Sharp – came in 10th in 8.05 whilst Charlotte Corrigan finished 2nd in the Girls Race with 7.35.1 also winning the U12 Age Category for the girls which was a great result for Charlotte who has only just recently joined the Harriers.
Park Runs Round up
One hundred and three runners took to the new course, called by some as the ‘3 mile Beast’ on Saturday 16th January. Mark Almond (V45) took 3rd place overall in 20.53 with Mike Blacklidge (V55) in 18th with a time of 25.26. U15 Freya Black had her first run on this course coming in 40th with a time of 28.05. Freya also ran the Cuerden Valley Park Run the following week finishing 63rd out of 144 runners in a time of 27.22.

After dropping off a little in numbers the Witton Park 5k Run saw 113 runners out on the 23rd January with Mark Almond running just outside his PB by 4 seconds on the course with a 2nd placed 19.59. 2nd Claim member for the Harriers on the Track – Joanne Nelson – was just behind in 3rd in 20.03. Carly Edwards took 15th place overall and 2nd Woman in 23.27 with new member Leo Gebbie one place further back in 23.53 (16th). Mike Blacklidge (V55) set a new PB on this Course with 24.50 in 20th place and was followed in by U15 Chloe Bleeks who was 29th in 26.19. Hannah Davies had the better over her mum again placing 56th (30.30) to Lindsay’s 30.37 in 57th spot.
