Joanne Nelson and Victoria Mousley made started off a weekend of endurance running for the Harriers as they entered the Pairs Realy at the Lancashire Off Road Marathon & Relays event, held on Sunday 27th september which covered a distance 27 miles on off-road moorland, towpaths, fields and hills along The Burnley Way – startng at 8.00am in the morning. Joanne got the day off to a problem start as she broke down on the way.

So, leaving the car and making her wat to the Race, she and Victoria set off 15 minutes after everyone else, but still managed to pull through and come home as first female pair on the day with a time of 5hr 09.40. Post race, with car retrieved, Victoria said that “Joanne summed up the day perfectly” who told us thye “Enjoyed a fabulous 28.6 mile race with my partner in crime, Victoria Mousley. We decided to enter the Lancashireman offroad event as a bit of a challenge. Unfortunately my mileage has been next to nothing for 2 months as I have struggled with my piriformis and nerve ends, so this was a “fun” event. It wasn’t too much fun in the morning, when my car broke down on the motorway and I needed to ring the RAC and leave my car abandoned. We may it to the start, late and where on a chase to catch others. I loved it! The legs held up and we had a fabulous day. First ladies team. Not too bad for two old cronies.”

Outlaw X – September 27th

This a full on race at the best of time comprising a 1.2 mile open water Swim, a 56 mile Bike Ride followed by a Half-Marathon. What you don’t want to throw into the mix is freezing cold weather and a headwind on the bike!! This didn’t deter Janine Fallon who made the trip to Nottingham and battled realy hard to place 174th in the Women’s Race out of 261 finishers, with many more posting DNF’s in the conditions. Janine clocked a total time for the Swim, Ride and Run of 6hr 30.41.

Outlaw X Results

Once Janine had thawed out, she spoke to the Club about her experience – one that no doubt qwill live long in the mind! “After the disappointment of ironman UK being cancelled, I had a back up plan of outlaw x… It was on then off then a maybe and finally a few weeks to go covid let us take part. Then the weather decided to have a different plan… The night before the race an email was sent from the organisers to say due to the air temperature the swim will be shortened from 1. 2 miles to 750 metres.. Believe you me I do not handle cold very well and the water never mind the air was freezing and it ended up being the longest shortest swim I have done! The bike was 56 miles but actually 57 miles of 29 mph wind that never seemed to get behind me and just added to my chilling body, the run was 13.1 miles mainly trail through Thoresby park Nottingham and finally was heading to the orange carpet, that is the finish line.. I ended my long cold day finishing in 6:30…. have I sold the event to anyone 😁 no it was a well organised event, just needed a warmer day for me”.
