On Tuesday September 8th, Blackburn Harriers – Holly Bradshaw and Markhim Lonsdale – competed in the Golden Spike Meeting held in Ostrava. This competition followed their involvement in the British Track & Field Championships held at Sportscity last weekend, in which Holly took the British Pole Vault Title and Markhim placed 6th in the 800m Final.

Holly won the Golden Spike Pole Vault competition with a second time clearance of 4.60m which marks the end of what has been a frustrating season for all athletes. Short though the season may have been, preceding wins at the British Championships and the Ostrava competition, Holly recorded wins in Finland (4.73m), Poland (4.70m), Sweden (4.69m), 2nd in Sweden (4.48m) and 2nd in France (4.64m).

Markhim has had even less of a season, being able to muster just 4 races since February earlier in the year, with two of those at back to back races over the British Championships weekend. In Ostrava, he raced in the ‘B’ 800m to take the win in a seasons best time of 1.50.44 from Daniel Kotyza in 2nd (1.51.04) and Andrej Mitasik in 3rd (1.51.10).
