Offerton 10k at Stockport – July 9th

Ben Fish started off in June with a 5000m win (14.57) in the Northern League at Sportscity and the day after finished 3rd in the Ramathon Half (72.14). Moving on to June 18th he won the Horwich 5 in 24,51 and followed that up four days later by winning the Freckleton Half (70.30) for the eighth consecutive year. Into July saw Ben winning again at the Offerton 10k (32.33) and four days later won the 5000m for the Club at Derby in the Northern League as well as finishing 2nd in the 1500m. A man in form!

Horwich Jubilee Series – Race 3 July 16th

Just 105 runners on a very hot night for Race Three of the Jubilee Series and six Blackburn Harriers amongst them led home by Chris Davies in 4th place overall and despite having to stop with a back problem, still managed a PB of 29.18. Next home was Allan Hartley 14th (31.15) and having a really good series. He knocked 23 seconds off his time in Race 2 and is now standing at 6th overall in the Series and 4th overall in the V40’s. David Almond back in regular training and improving by the week came next in 19th with a time of 31.37. V60 George Woodburn was trying to get another Age Group win – he won the V60’s in Race 2 – but was just a touch off in second place this time finishing 77th in 39.03. Kaylie Panro placed 86th (40.26) and V50 David Morris came 102nd (47.44).
Young Amy Davies had another cracking run in the Horwich Junior Race. Having won Race One and Race two already she finished second in this one but with a new PB by four seconds of 6.03 on the measured one mile course.

Calder Vale Supper Run – July 17th

One hundred and sixteen runners in this Race won by Raymond Edgar (20.53) from Lancaster. Blackburn Harrier Chris Barnes had a good run here to finish third overall in a time of 22.08 and pipping home Paul Muller and Eddie Simpson.

Elswick Express Ten Mile Race – 19th July

Kaylie Panaro chose a really hot day to try and beat her ten mile PB at this Race. Finishing 70th in 79.48 and knocked a huge 57 seconds off her previous best which in the conditions shows there is much more to come.

Kettlewell Fell Race – July 12th

Jack Hindle has had a really good season on the Fells securing an England Vest and racing consistently well. At Kettlewell he finished third in the Race and said later “It was a great race, quite steep but the hot weather conditions made it harder!! I climb well and managed to secure the third position, before the descent! I’m happy with my performance, as it has allowed me to place third overall in the championship!”
Another good young Blackburn Harrier is Joe Campbell who finished 11th overall in the Junior Fell Championships which is a great effort in his first year. Joe competed at Pendle, Rivington, Cointers and Clougha Pike.

Snowdon Super Cup – July 19th

Tom Cornthwaite and Gary Priestley who run for Blackburn Harriers on the Track were amongst the twenty eight runners who tackled this one last Sunday in the heat.The Race won by James Walsh from Leeds saw Tom finishing in 4th place (for Northumberland) in 30.35 and Gary (Salford) in 10th with a time of 32.30.

Snowdon Mountain Race – July 19th

Six hundred and thirteen runners in this race on a blisteringly hot day but that didn’t deter Helen Leigh who had a cracking run finishing 162nd overall in the mixed field and fourth Woman in her Age Category with a time of 65.39.
Been a good year for Helen with some outstanding runs and In the English Fell Running Championships Helen competing at Pendle, Conniston and Ennerdale, she finished 7th overall which featured 54 athletes in the Series.

Trawden 7 Trail Race
Two second places in the Vets Category for Blackburn Harriers at the Trawden 7 Trail Race held on June 23rd featuring 153 runners and won by Marc Hartley in 38.40. Andy Buttery finished 6th overall and 2nd V40 (41.45) with Gary Pearse 11th and second V45 in 43.56.

Todmorden Park 5k Series (2/4)
One hundred and sixty eight runners in this race won by Marc Hartley (15.38.6). U15 Natalya Irvine finished 39th overall with a really good performance in 19.38.3 and was the first Junior girl home.

John and Carol Cookson were out at the Pilling 10k on July 12th with John finishing 14th overall in 45.06 and Carol 32nd in 54.07 just outside her PB and in these hot conditions was a really solid run.
The day after on July 13th saw the annual and classic Windmill Marathon run at Blackpool. Four hundred and eighty one runners lined up in the summer heat for this one which was won very impressively by by Welsh athlete Andrew Davies in 68.06. Second was the Harriers Shaun Livesey (77.28) some two minutes clear from third placed Seamus Walker. Shaun also won the V40 Category to add to the many prizes he has already won this year. Claire Bridge who definitely now has the running bug after her Marathon ran 2.03.52 for 320th place.
At the We Love Manchester 10k on July 13th 2315 runners completed the Race. Amongst them was Harrier Samantha McCreadie who just missed out on a PB by just two seconds (39.00) as a result of getting trapped at the beginning of the Race. She was an impressive 61st overall, as well as being 5th Woman in and 4th in her Age Category.

UK Ironman at Bolton – July 19th

Blackburn Harriers Brian Fogarty, Paul Guinan and Matt Nuttall – competing for the rapidly growing FITT Team – were all up at the crack of dawn to start the 2.4 mile Open Water Swim at the UK Ironman Event in Bolton – along with 3000 other entrants – which was the qualifying Race for the World Championships in Hawaii. Fantastically, Brian qualified in 4th place in his Age Group (9.46.45) and 16th overall in the Race as did Matt Nuttall who was 80th overall (10.40.51). Paul was just behind in 94th place (10.49.35).

Blackburn Harrier Mark Bleasdale – also competing for FITT – went to Germany to contest The Challenge Roth Ironman in Germany and what a Race he had. Mark’s Results HERE. He finished 136th overall and 31st in his Age Group smashing his PB when he came home in a time of 9.54.18 which was a fantastic result.
