At the IRONMAN UK Race in Bolton on August 3rd, Brian Fogarty put in a stunning performance to finish 15th overall in his best ever time to-date of 9hrs 43.43. Brian went into the Race knowing that he had to finish in the top 6 of his age category to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii which is held at Kona in October. He did better than just get into the top six though, finishing in 3rd place and receiving a trophy for his performance. Brian’s achievement is all the more remarkable given that he has to train around running his own full time business and is another example of what can be achieved with hard work, dedication, commitment and focus.

Speaking after the Race Brian said ” that it was a great feeling knowing that I had put in an awful amount of work and the result reflected that and it didn’t come easy. I committed myself to it and have been rewarded. I intend to build on that now and cannot wait to race in Kona Hawaii in October which will be the end of an unbelievable season for me “……….”Sunday at UK Ironman 2013 was by far my best achievement to date finishing 15th overall out of 2500 people, and with that I came 3rd in my age category to qualify for the Ironman World championship in Kona Hawaii. This was something I could only have dreamed about when I first started running with Blackburn Harriers. It was at that time I got to know Matt Nuttall and Paul Guinan who between them have completed over 30 Ironman races, training and learning from them has certainly help me to improve…………Myself and fellow Blackburn Harrier Mark Bleasdale who finished in 196th place out of the two and half thousand competitors with a fine performance of (11hr 24.38) had trained for 10 months for this race and we both felt we were ready to put in our best performance. We both finished knowing we had given our all, and we were proud of our efforts!!
