Great North Run – September 10th

It’s not often you get to run in a Race with 57000 runners but that’s exactly where Victoria Mousley was last weekend in the Great North Half-Marathon where she finished 24th overall in the Women’s Race in a time of 85.32. Given that Victoria went into the race on top of a period of ill-health, her time was an exceptionally good one.

After the Race Victoria told the Club that “It was an amazing experience today. I’d been ill for the last 6weeks. 2 chest infections, perforated ear drum, ear infection and then a bad stomach from all the antibiotics. I wasn’t even convinced I was going to do it till Thursday this week. It was brilliant running with space and being on my own for most of the race… Except for the crowds. For 12.5 miles there are thousands of people cheering and clapping. I haven’t done the gnr since I was 18 but the atmosphere hasn’t changed. I was disappointed with my time as I was hoping for 82 mins. But I had a great day, I’ve already booked the accommodation for next year and I’ll make a better job of it”.

V40 Daniel Whittaker also ran the race finishing in 1305th position with a time of 1hr 33.10 – going through 5k in 20.06, 10k in 42.07 and 15k in 64.15.

Morgan Angland was competing in her final track race before going off to University – she clocked 16.5 in the 100m Hurdles running solo which wasn’t bad given that the conditions were also pretty poor. U13 Boys Ben Boocock and Codie Dewhurst were in the 75m Hurdles along with the U15 Girls Myah Booth and Christie Sturgess. Myah won the Race in 12.5 with Christie 3rd in 14.7. The Yorkshireman – September 10th

(Photos courtesy of www.woodentops.org)

Mark Wilkin had been looking forward to running this Race – won by Owen Beilby in 3hr 26.50 –  which isn’t your usual road based Marathon. His first time ever over this distance V50 Mark completed the Course in 5hr 42.22 and afterwards told the Club that it was his “First ever marathon, and hardest physical challenge ever! Felt the hills as only trained up to a flattish half due to sore foot. Was very chuffed to complete it”.
