Some great Results for Blackburn Harriers in Track & Field over the last week and a half. Karl Billington ran a great Race to win the 5000m ‘B’ Race at Watford  – May 17th – beating James Mee by just under two seconds in a strong finish. Winning the Race in 4.30.06 Karl destroyed his previous PB by seventeen seconds. Speaking to the Club after the Race Karl said I went into the race with the plan to try and win, if i could do that then i knew the time would come with it. thankfully i was having one of those days were everything goes right and came away with the win and a 17secs PB first one in 4 years“.

At the same meeting, Alison Leonard took on the 800m ‘A’ Race and won from Katie Kirk in 2.02.79. Paul Bradshaw ran in the ‘B’ 800m and ran 1.53.42. Then at the Loughborough International on May 18th Alison represented England in the 1500m and also won that in a time of 4.14.61, less then a second off her PB. Watch the Race Video. Understandably, Alison was happy with her weekends work and commented Was super happy with the win and thought it was about 4:14 and then started getting all these messages saying “Well done on the 4.08!”. But overall a great weekend of racing, really pleased to be getting some wins under my belt”.

Sophie Hitchon who is in training for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow went to Germany on Saturday at the Werfertage in Halle and threw in the Women’s Hammer Competition there finishing fifth with a throw of 71.53m (RESULTS) – (Watch The Video). She then dashed back to Loughborough and won the Hammer Competition there with a throw of 69.92 (RESULTS). After the two competitions Sophie told us really pleased with the busy weekend 71 in Germany followed by 69 at Loughborough to win comp for England still work in progress to get technique together but all looking positive so far”.

Rob Warner set new PB’s at both Watford and Loughborough fixtures and shows what great shape he is in at the moment saying that he is  Very happy to come away with 2 big pb’s in my first 2 races of the season!…..” ” I ran the 800 on the Wednesday and went out pretty hard for the first 400 in 57 but managed to finish quite strongly in the last 100m…. For the 3000m on the Sunday I were quite nervous as there were some very quick runners from England and GB but didnt get too carried away on the first km and managed to work well in the last 3 laps and finished strongly with a 65 last lap!” In his 3000m Race at Loughborough he finished sixth in 8.35.45 chopping a huge 21 secs off his previous best time.
