Mid Lancs Cross Country League – First Fixture at Astley Park
Good weather for the start of the Cross Country season greeted the athletes as they lined up at Astley Park on Saturday, resulting in some very good Individual and Team wins for the Harriers.

A good start for the Men’s Senior Team at this first fixture taking 2nd place out of the 27 Teams on the day.
Karl Billington was the first Harrier home in the Men’s Senior Team Race with 249 runners in the field taking 5th spot in 35.24. Next home was Tim Raynes (16th) in 36.59 followed by Zac Howe (23rd) in 37.59, Shaun Livesey (34th) in 38.58), Chris Davies in a time of 39.36 (41st), Joe Howe 39.47 (43rd), John Cookson (146th) in 47.18, Danny Teare (192nd) in 51.47, Michael Sharp in 54.01 (211th) and David Billington (235th) in 60.03.
Leah Hoole led the Harriers U11 Team home into 3rd Team on the day out of the nine Teams competing. Leah came 7th out of the 64 runners in a time of 6.36 and was backed up Kate Cookson in 13th (7.02), Amelia Tyson in 27th (7.22) and Isabelle Hartley in 50th (8.19).
The U11 Boys went one better finishing 2nd Team of 7 competing with Kyle Pomfret having a great run in 8th place (6.36) followed just one second behind in 9th spot by Edward Lee (6.37), Saul Sharp who also had a cracking run in 16th with (6.44) and new member Ben Duxbury in 39th (7.31).
In the U13 Girls race featuring 45 runners, Amy Davies had an emphatic win taking the race in 10.22. Unfortunately the other U13 Girls weren’t available on the day, but had they been, they would have had a very good chance of winning the Team prize.
Having had the first Individual win of the day, the second one came in the U13 Boys race along with the first Team win of the day when Matt Ramsden won the race by four seconds in 12.33. Jamie Teare in 5th (12.52) and Leon Thomas in 7th (13.00), Harvey Ashworth (19th) in 13.44, Daniel Brown 25th in 14.15, and Luke Ingleson (26th) in 14.22 helped cement the Team win in a fifty one strong field.
Maddie Elliott led the Harriers team to 3rd place out of the seven teams in the U15 Girls when she had a great race to finish in 2nd place (13.12), just one second behind the winner. Hannah Cookson also had a very fine race taking 5th spot in 14.03 with Chloe Bleeks in 12th (15.16) and Freya Black 22nd (16.11).
Liz Greenwood posted the the third individual win of the day in the U17 Women’s race in 15.46 with Grace Handley taking 2nd spot for the Harriers in 16.25. Only two senior women were out on the day in a 141 strong field which saw Carol Cookson coming in 102nd (36.54) and Lindsay Davies 109th in 37.55.
