A day of sunshine greeted athletes from seven teams in this years UKYDL (UAG) North West Division 1 – Blackburn Harriers, Border & Seaton, Lancaster & Morecambe, Leigh Harriers, Sale Harriers, Team North Cumbria and West Cheshire AC – at Witton Park on Sunday April 27th. Blackburn Harriers got off to a fine start, winning the match with 597 points followed by West Cheshire (481), Leigh Harriers (434), Lancaster & Morecambe (388), Border & Seaton (327), Sale Harriers (325) and Team Noth Cumbria (191). Once again a big thank you to all those who volunteered to officate throughout the day – without them, we wouldn’t be able to put the events on.

Unfortunately photos taken for the Long Jump, Hiurdles and some early track races including 100m & 1500m had to be binned – so apologies to those athletes who don’t appear in the album.

With some athletes in the Harriers squad making their competitive debut, some moving up in age group and some competing in their first season, they produced really good results posting 28 wins, 21 second and 10 3rd places throughout the day. Congratulations to all the athletes who made up the team on the day.

On different terrain completely, Saturday April 26th was the date for the latest iconic and 71st running of the Three Peaks Race (RESULTS) – the race being won by Ben Rothery in 3hr.00.00 and the Women’s race was won by Nichola Jackson in a time of 3hr 45.55. Blackburn Harriers Marc Hartley was in the race and finished in a time of 4hr 01.45, narrowly missing breaking 4 hours as he explained to the Club afterwards saying ” A fantastic event with great support and encouragement all the way round. Whernside is the killer but I thought I managed my legs well enough. Overall pleased to have finished it and make the top 100 but annoyingly I was just a smidge over the 4 hour mark.

Still on the Fells at the Duddon Dash race where Theo Robinson and Lottie Hesketh ran in the U17 race. Theo improved his time by 2mins 50 seconds versus last year in finishing 17th overall in a time of 44.40.  Lottie was in the same race – she has just been selected to represent Lancashire in the Inter-Counties – finishing 7th in the Women’s race, running 49.18. On the day it was very low cloud/mist upon arrival in Duddon Valley, following a light shower, cool and boggy fells – but it did clear out as they finished this afternoon. (RESULTS)
