Really good performances from the Clubs athletes who entered the Lancashire Schools and County Combined Events Championships at Hyndburn last weekend – April 20/21st. Sunny on Saturday and great conditions were followed by a real deterioration in the weather on Sunday. However, this didn’t deter performances, with Katie Buckingham running an 800m PB into the wind!!

In the Inter Girls Heptathlon, the Harriers took first, second and third places. Polly Pearse won the event with an overall total of 3045 points covering 80m Hurdles; High Jump; Shot Putt; 200m; Long Jump; Javelin and 800m. Really good performances by Katie Buckingham to take second place with 2938 points and also a really good performance from Olivia Brooks with 2582 points for the Bronze Medal.

In the Junior Girls Heptathlon which featured 75m Hurdles; Shot Putt; High Jump; Long Jump and 800m, Morgan Angland put in a really fine performance totaling 2169 points for the Bronze Medal and just 20 points way from gaining the Silver. Kayla Masterson finished in 8th place (1528 points) and Esme Pearse in 9th place (1167 points) and both did themselves proud.

In the Senior Mens and U20 Decathlon, Joe Pearse continued to improve, recording new PB’s and winning the event which included 100m; Long Jump; Shot Putt; High Jump; 400m; 110m Hurdles; Discus; Pole Vault; Javelin; and a punishing 1500m as the last event. Joe recorded  a total of 5166 points which was a cracking performance.

The Inter Boys Octathlon consisting of Long Jump; Discus; Javelin; 400m; 100m Hurdles; Shot Putt and 1500m was contested by Ben Aspinall. Ben finished 4th with 2859 points which was a great effort at his first attempt. It’s rumoured that he wasn’t too enamored with ever considering a 1500m ever again!

Cameron Massey in his first season for the Club contested the Junior Boys Pentathlon comprising 80m Hurdles; Shot Putt; Long Jump; High Jump and 800m and came away with a splendid total of 1682 points and the Bronze Medal – a really good achievement.

Hyndburn Open Quadrathlon

A number of youngsters from the Clubs Sportshall Group contested the Quadrathlon over the weekend. In the Year 5 & Year 6 Boys event on Saturday which featured 75m; Vortex; Standing Long Jump; and 600m Sam Farnworth finished in 4th place overall with 187 points, winning the Year 5 event and Harry Jackson finished in 10th place overall (104 points).

On Sunday, again in the Year 5 & Year 6 Boys event, Jack Fairbanks came 3rd overall (200 points)and won the Year 6 event and Taylor Byrne 5th overall (141 points) taking 2nd place in the Year 6 event.

In the Year 3 & Year 4 event on Sunday – 50m; Vortex; Standing Long Jump and 400m, William Clarke won the competition with 190 points which was another good and really determined performance on the day.

On Sunday in the Year 5 and Year 6 Girls Event, Emily Raine performed really well for 4th place overall (187 points) and third in the Year 5 Event. Emily had to compete in the 75m; Vortex; Standing Long Jump and 600m and there is no doubt that she gave it everything she had on the day.

Christie Sturgess contested the Year 3 and Year 4 Girls Event running the 3rd fastes time of 8.9 secs for the 50m. It was Christies first ever attempt at competition.
