A cracking weekeend for Blackburn Harruers U15G 4 x 100m Relay team as they headed to Birmingham and the Alexancdra Stadium on Sunday August 17th to do battle with all of the other top rated relay teams in the country. There were three Heats in the U15G age group, with Blackburn Harriers going in the final Heat and missing out on qualifying for the Final by a tenth of a second as they placed 3rd with a time of 50.09 which is just one tenth outside their own club record and meant that they finished the Championships in 10th place. The team of Imogen Boardman, Niamh Boland, Darcie Belshaw, Caris Peter-Thomas, did themselves and the Club proud and their Coach – Phil Craven – who was there with them, was in no doubt about their achievment as he told the Club afterwards saying “The girls gave a great account of themselves on the day, finishing just outside their PB. An absolutely fantastic achievement to make it to Nationals, finishing as the 10th fastest team in the country. Well done girls, immensely proud!” (RESULTS)

The same weekend – Saturday August 16th – was the date for the penultimate fixture of this years Mid Lancs Track & Field Series, held at Witton Park on a warm. breezy day. (PROVISIONAL RESULTS) — (MID LANCS T&F LEAGUE PHOTOS). As always the day starts with the Men’s Hammer at 11.00am followed by 100m Sprints on the track at 12.00noon. Blackburn Harriers had quite a lot of sprinters out on the day, headed by Charlie Unsworth taking his Heat of the 100m in 10.9 and his 200m Heat in 21.7 to give him overall victories over both distances. Daniel Nuttall was in the same Heat as Charlie and posted a seasons best of 11.2 in 4th alongside Samuel Mutombo clocking 12.1 in 4th (Heat 2) and Ben Whittaker running 12.8 in 7th (Heat 3). After Charlie Unsworth had won Heat 1 of the 200m (21.7), Matthew Fairbrother won Heat 2 in a new PB time of 23.8. U17 Keir Michie equaled his personal best in Heat 1 of the U17 men’s 100m (3rd) in 11.6 as Ernie Hobson clocked a new PB of 11.9 (2nd) in Heat 2, with Jack Thompson (12.5) and James McAulay (13.3) in 5th & 6th places respectively (Heat 3). Keir Michiethen won Heat 1 of the 200m and won overall with a new PB of 23.3 alongside Matthew Sharples clocking 23.7 in 4th (Heat 1) – and in Heat 2 – three Blackburn Harriers Ernie Hobson 2nd in 24.6, Issac Brindle 5th in a new PB time of 25.4 and Jack Thompson 6th in 25.6 completed those races. The U15 Boys 100m races included Tynias Mensah running 12.4 (4th) in Heat 1 with multi-eventer James Acton-Grieves 7th in heat 2 (13.7). In the U13 Boys 100m Blackburn Harriers atrhletes finished 2nd, 4th and 8th overall out of the three heats – Xuanqiao Liang 2nd in Heat 1 (13.6), which was a new PB by three tenths, Noah Briscoe winning Heat 2 in 14.1 equaling his personal best and Harry Mitcvhell winning Heat 3 in 14.9 – his first time over the distance. In the senior women’s 200m’s Isabelle Hartley ran 30.9 in 3rd spot (Heat 2). Evie Fort and Leonie Harris ran the U17 Women’s 100m – Evie 3rd in Heat 2 (13.9) and Leonie 5th in Heat 1 (15.3) and in the 200m Evie clocked 28.5 in 4th (Heat 1) with team mates Bella McCredie 3rd in Heat 2 (31.1) and Leonie Harris in 4th (32.8) – following on from there in the 300m, Bella ran 48.2 in 3rd spot. There was a win for Anvitha Reddyin Heat 3 of the U15 Girls 100m running 14.0 whilst Alyssia Michie clocked a new PB of 15.4 in 5th place (Heat 1). Hannah Moore and Sophie Douglas ran in the U13 Girls 100m – Hannah running 14.8 in 6th spot in Heat 1, just shy of her personal best whilst Sophie clocked a new PB 15.5 in 3rd spot (Heat 3) – and in the 200m, Jenna McKinlay ran 37.3 in 6th spot (Heat 1) and finished off her day in the Shot Putt with a 5th placed throw of 3.57m.

Two heats in the senior women’s 400m in which Millee Schofield ran a new PB of 58.1 as she won her Heat and was first overall.
On to the longer distances and there was a seasons best run of 2.03.8 in 2nd place of the senior men’s 800m for U20 Logan McCredie, followed by a 2nd place for V50 Stephen Hall in the 3000m running a new PB time of 9.45.6, just three seconds behind the winner. George Holman and Liam Bennison took on the U17 Mens 1500m – George placing 2nd in 4.41.9 and Liam 3rd clocking a new PB time of 4.45.6. Edward Russell-Blackburn placed 6th with a new PB in the U13 Boys 800m (2.44.5) alongside team mate William Fairwood in 9th (3.02.6). Isabella Pacelli came 3rd in the senior women’s 800m (2.33.7) and in the U17W 800m Lily Jane Green clocked a new PB 2.43.4 in 2nd spot as sister Hetty Rose Green ran 2.53.9 in in the U15G 800m (8th) – and – Pippa Blackurn ran 2.54.5 in 4th spot in the U13 Girls 800m.

In the fieldU17’s Lincoln Briggs with a new PB and Alex Burns-Groves placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the High Jump with clearances of 1.65m and 1.55m as Samuel Mutombo came 2nd in the senior mens Long Jump. leaping out to 5.52m. George Camara led the way in the U17  mens Triple Jump, winning with 11.48m – and – following his new personal best in the High Jump, Lincoln Briggs placed 3rd in the Shot Putt (11.22m) amd 2nd in the Discus (36.15m). James Acton-Grieves was just 6cm short of his personal best in winning ther U15 Boys Long Jump (4.96m) whilst U15 Zakariya Haq came 4th in the Shot Putt (7.07m) and 3rd in the Javelin (27.87m). It was 2nd and 3rd for Harriers duo Noah Briscoe (4.18m) and Harry Mitchell (4.11m ) in the U13 Boys Long Jump, whilst in the U13 Boys Javelin, Henry Iddon was showing his continued good form with a 2nd placed throw of 30.21m in the Javelin followed by placing 4th in the Discus (16,92m). Jessica Gleave (7.50m) and Isabelle Hartley (7.12m) placed 6th and 8th respectively in the senior womens Shot Putt – later Isabelle throwing 26.25m in the Javelin (4th). Lia Cooper cleared 1.30m in the U17W Hgh Jump (2nd) as Emily Dai jumped 4.01m in te U17W Lomg Jump (3rd). U13 Hannah Moore was just 2cms outside her best as she cleared 1.35m in the High Jump (2nd) and placed 7th in the Long Jump (3.57m) alongside Sophie Douglas jumping 3.10m (11th).

On the road. Tanith-Jade Ellis – or TJ – as she is popularly known –  was trying to break the 20 minute barrier for 5k and came close in her latest race – Run The Lights 5k – in Blackpool on Saturday August 16th (RESULTS) – TJ missed breaking the 20 minutes by the smallest of margins as she ran a new PB of 20.03,49 –  some 28 seconds faster than her previous best which saw her finish as 2nd Woman.
One day Later, V45 James Bretherton was out at the Birchwood 10k – finishing 7th overall out of field of 441 finishers and 2nd V45 in a time of 34. 42. (RESULTS)
