North West Road Relays at Stanley Park – Saturday September 9th

Starting off with torrential rain as the athletes started to arrive, it soon soon brightened up with sunshine all day and it was a pretty good day for the Harriers too at this years North West Road Relays with twenty six Teams entered in all the age groups who between them won 4 Team Golds, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal.

The Senior Men had five Teams out placing 10th, 16th, 39th, 56th and 68th overall in the Northwest and 4th, 7th, 17th, 25th and 28th in the Lancashire Championships. Tim Raynes who led off the ‘A’ Team ran the 6th fastest Leg of the day in 20.32  with Joe Howe on Leg 2 in 23.12, Jack Hindle Leg 3 (21.55) and Chris Davies on leg 4 (22.34).

In 16th spot came our second Team with Brian Fogarty (21.58), Shaun Livesey (22.53), Andy Buttery (23.32) and Ben Costello (22.59).

Team three in 39th place consisted of Paul Brindle (23.09), Derek Reilly (23.46), Stephen Schofield (23.13) and Karl Billington (27.10).

Our fourth Team in 56th position was led off on Leg (1) by John Chaplin in 25.42, followed by Andy Heys (25.08), Danny Maynard (25.55) and John Cookson (27.49).

Danny Teare ran first Leg for Team five in 30.58 with Matt Nuttall on Leg 2 in 23.46, Mark Lord in 30.39 and Marco Maggio (28.02).

The Senior Women has three Teams out with the ‘A’ Team led off by Carmen Byrne (21.22), Joanne Nelson (21.26) and Carly Edwards (22.12) finishing in 12th place overall (North West) and taking the Silver Medal in the Lancashire Championships. The Race was controversial in that some athletes had run short distances which made the verification of the results very difficult. Our second Team came home in 29th with Carol Reilly clocking 24.30, Janine Fallon 23.00 and Lindsay Davies 25.04. The third Team placed 43rd overall with Michelle Teare (26.35), Charlie Coy (24.23) and Catherine Guinan in 28.46. In the Lancashire Championships our second and third Teams finished in 8th and 16th places.

Outstanding performance of the day came from the U15 Boys ‘A’ Team who won both North West and Lancashire Gold Medals. Leon Thomas led off on Leg (1) in the front with several other athletes clocking a time of 11.07 and handing over to Jamie Teare in 4th place. Jamie took it on and ran 11.19 before handing over to Matt Ramsden on the final leg which he ran in the second fastest time of the day (10.35) to overtake all six runners in front of him and clinch the Gold Medal for the Team. Great performance by all the lads.

Two more teams for the U15 Boys – finishing in 17th place overall (North West) and 4th in the Lancashire Championships with Charlie Ball in his first competitive season on Leg (1) posting a time of 12.23, Harvey Ashworth on Leg (2) having a very good run with 11.35 and Ethan Barbarewicz on Leg (3) in a time of 12.46. Our third team of Harry Wilkin (11.55), George Whittaker (12.58) and Luke Ingleson (13.18) finished in 20th position (North West) and 6th in Lancashire.

The U15 Girls had two Teams on the day with Hollie Oldham running a time of 13.40, Amy Davies 12.32 and Eleesha Charnley 12.50 to take 11th place overall (North West) and 4th in the Lancashire Championships. Our second Team of Charlotte Collin (15.39), Rebecca Ramsden (15.06) and Alex Taylor (15.28) placed 20th overall in the North West and 7th in Lancashire.

Our U17 Women won a Lancashire Gold Medal as the only complete Team on the day which saw Maddie Elliott run 12.02 on Leg (1), Hannah Cookson on Leg (2) clocking 13.31 and Freya Black on the final Leg (14.34) to finish 8th overall in the North West. Chloe Gardner ran in an incomplete Team and was competing for the Club for the very first time and did really well to finish with a time of 15.26.

The U17 Men with Bradley Meikleham who missed the start on the first Leg (19.31), Joe Gebbie who shot off like a rocket blasting the first half of the Race and paying for it later on ran 20.21 with Tom Betty in his first competitive season clocking 23.03 on the final leg. The lads finished 18th in the North West and 5th in Lancashire with Bradley running the 8th fastest time Lancashire time.

It was a Bronze Medal in the Lancashire Championships for the U11 Girls featuring Isabelle Hartley on the first leg in 7.12, Kady Thompson on Leg (2) in 7.12 and Hannah Davies running 7.14 on the final leg which was an amazing example of a finely matched team of equal abilities. Overall in the North West the girls placed 16th. Sadly there was a last minute drop out for our second team which meant that Sienna Rose Wareing (7.09) and Molly Grimshaw (7.06), both with very good times had to run as an incomplete Team. Placing 16th out of the 32 Teams in the North West Championships and 3rd in Lancashire all five girls finished in the top ten fastest Legs in the Lancashire Championships.

The U11 Boys also came home with a medal winning Silver in the Lancashire Championships as they finished 7th overall in the North West. That team featured Harry Sambrook (6.13), George Ramsden (6.37) and Oliver Gill (6.25) whilst our second Team finished in 10th place (North West) and 4th in Lancashire led by Matthew Smith on the first leg in 6.26, Daniel Smith on the second in a time of 6.03 and William Dudgeon (7.16) on the final leg. Great running by some of these young lads who were competing for the very first time.

The Clubs U13’s also did themselves proud both boys and girls winning medals. The U13 Girls finished 7th and 25th in the overall North West Championships and took Silver as they came home runners up in the Lancashire Championships – Leah Hoole ran Leg (1) in 13.05, handing over to Caroline Woodworth who clocked 13.53 before Hollie Cubbon on the final Leg cemented that Silver Medal with a time of 13.00. Our second Team had Kate Cookson leading off in 13.52, followed by Eva Knowles in 15.23 and Keira Haxton (14.36) came 8th in Lancashire with Hollie and Leah running the 4th and 5th fastest Lancashire Legs.  Another incomplete Team meant that Molly Nicholls (14.30) and Keira Booth (14.36) ran the first two legs.

Our U13 Boys had a great day taking Silver in placing 2nd overall in the North West and Gold for winning the Lancashire Championships. That team had Hayden Mercer run the first leg in 11.45 handing over to Kyle Taylor-Pomfret who had a brilliant leg (11.46) to hand over to Dexta Thompson on  the final leg who came home in 2nd spot to clinch the medals.

SONY DSC Good running from our second team saw them finish in 13th place (North West) and 5th in Lancashire with Zachary Walmsley (12.19), Rory Teare (13.12) and Isaac Butler (12.12) backed up by our third team – 30th (North West) and 9th in Lancashire which saw Saul Sharp clock 14.28 on the first leg, Sebastian Burton 14.41 on the second and Codie Dewhurst 14.08 on the last. In the top ten fastest Lancashire Legs Hayden came 3rd, Dexta 4th, Kyle = 4th, Isaac 7th and Zach 9th.
