The Pendle Three Peaks – 22nd August

The Pendle Three Peaks Race took place on Saturday August 22nd, a Race described by the organisers on the Race website as “We feel that this is the route that best embraces the fells around the Pendle area.  It takes on the 3 toughest Climbs in the area with great descents and fast running in between.   The race is perfect for those seeking to step up to the full tour of Pendle/Lakeland races or similar AL or BL fell races. It will also challenge the true fell runner who enjoys grassy descent and tough long climbs.”

There was a total field of 152 runners with 121 in the Men’s Race and 31 in the Women’s Race. The Men’s Race won by Darren Kay in Sean Livesey 1.24.47 saw Shaun Livesey finish in 9th place in a time of 1hr .37.30 and 2nd V40 and told the Club that Having not raced on the fell since the stan bradshaw round I thought I would give it a bash and use it as a good threshold run. Knowing the hill well I was not concerned about getting lost during the race. I set of steady not worried about other runners. It became clear on the first decent I had worn the wrong shoes with many runners flying past me. However I soon caught them up when it came to the climbs on the back end of the race. When I came to the last climb up the big end I remember Micheal toms ( on a previous run) telling me to take a different line. I was a bit unsure but decided to use it, and I can tell you I shall use it again I definitely gave me an advantage on the other runners going straight up. I finished 9th feeling good and strong. Note to self, next time mudclaw”.

Andy Heys also ran and came in 61st place with a time of 2.00.05. Helen Leigh who is training for the forthcoming Coast- to Coast Event had a really good run to finish 2nd Woman overall in 1hr. 48.15 and commentedwanted to get a last hard run in before the c2c and this was definately that! Pretty much the tour of pendle minus the easy bit! I felt a bit sluggish as been training hard so just did my best to slog round and was second female. Not my greatest run but hopefully a good set up for the four day coast to coast adventure race this Friday!
