Liverpool Jumps & Throws Open – 13th September

Three members of the the Clubs young Throws Squad Jacob Roberts, Rebecca Orrell and Connor Davison competed at this end of season Open meeting.

Rebecca finished 6th in the Shot Putt with a throw of 9.55m where the winner of this U17 Age Group Category threw 13.61m and with a second place Putt of 12.06m testified to the quality of the event. Rebecca then finished 4th (45.28m) in the very high quality U17 Women’s Hammer competition which saw the first three throw in excess of 52m.

Jacob contested the Hammer and Discus U15 Events, winning the Hammer with a Throw of 43.30m which he was a little disappointed about in terms of the distance and finished 4th in the Discus with 26.88m. U17 Connor Davison also competed in the Hammer finishing 3rd with a throw of 23.31m.

BWFAC Medal Open Meeting – 14th September

The day after the Liverpool Open seven of the Harriers youngsters competed at the Blackpool Open meeting producing some great results.

Top of the lot was Jacob Roberts in winning the U15 Boys Hammer with a Throw of 51.22m and a new PB which elevates him to 5th place in the National Rankings – an outstanding achievement. U17W Rebecca Orrell finished her season with two cracking events winning the Shot Putt with 10.04m equalling her PB and then winning the Hammer with a Throw of 47.32, just 60cms off her PB. Chloe Needham from Blackpool who trains under Jacob and Rebecca’s Coach Mick Hitchon, also had a very good weekend winning the Senior Women’s Hammer at Liverpool with 36.91m and again at Blackpool with 40.86m.

U15’s Cameron Massey and Nicholas Massey contested the 80mHurdles with Cameron coming out on top winning in 12.6sec and Nicholas second in 12.8 which was a new PB for him and is eight tenths of a second faster than at the start of the season.

U13 Emily Warren is another young athlete who is having a great first season. In the 800m she set a new PB by a tenth of a second when she finished second in 2.32.2 to the winners 2.32.1. Emily then took second place in the 200m (29.0sec) and won the 70m Hurdles in another new PB of 12.3 and just a tenth of a second off the Club Record.

One of the joys of the day was to see U11 Eleesha Charnley back out competing after problems with her health during the year. She has a smile that could launch a thousand ships. She started off with the Long Jump with 2.92m which was a seasons best (18th out of 26 competitors), set a new PB of 12.7 in the 80m which is seven tenths faster than she has run before and then set another PB in the 600m, finishing 6th of eleven athletes in 2.09.6 and nearly four seconds quicker than she has run before. She is back with a bang!

Derby Athletics Festival – 14th September

U13 Charlotte Williams who is having a great end to the season travelled to Derby for the Athletics Festival there.

Charly competed in the 75m Hurdles posting a time of 12.4 which she described as “a bad time” ….. just two tenths outside of the Club Record so not that bad at all!

She then set a new PB in the Shot Putt of 8.91m to win a Gold Medal and then threw 23.68m in the discus to win a Silver Medal to round off a very good day for her.
