Joe Pearse took a Gold Medal in the U20 High Jump with a winning height of 1.98m, a height which whilst not his best would also have won a Silver Medal in the Senior Men’s High Jump on the day. Apart from a Gold Medal, the win brought other rewards. Joe told the Club that he was “Very pleased with my first pain free high jump competition and over the moon that I have been selected for the Welsh International on the 29th July due to my win. Although the heights weren’t great, I have changed a lot with my run up and take off so the result is positive and I look forward to getting it all right and putting a good series of high heights together in the future”. Congratulations to Joe on achieving selection at International Level.

Rebecca Orrell has had a good weekend – qualifying on Saturday for English Schools in the Hammer and then winning two Bronze Medals in the Northern Championships in the Hammer with 39.24m and in the Shot Putt with a new PB of 8.88m. Given she has been having to manage an injury whilst competing, this weekends set of results have been excellent. After picking up her medals Rebecca commented I  came third in the Hammer with a throw of 39.24 and third in the shot with a PB throw of 8.88 which was 33cm further than my previous PB”………”Today’s competition was really good everybody who took part did their best and we all supported each other. I would like to dedicate my PB in the Shot to Iain Vickery who helped me yesterday with a new technique and has been there for me over the past few years!”

After setting a new PB of 3.54.26 for the 1500m at Sportscity two weeks ago, last week at Trafford saw Rob Warner set yet another personal best, this time at 800m with a 3rd placed 1.55.67. Rob was pleased with his PB but there is no doubt that there is more to come and after the Race he said that  The race was okay, I went through 400 a couple of seconds slower than I wanted to so ended up running even splits. If the start was quicker I think I definitely could have taken a bit more off, but can never be unhappy with a pb really!”
